During the samurai era, Dejima was Japan's only open diplomatic port while the rest of the country remained closed to the world. The experience takes place at a brewery that produces doburoku, Japan's oldest traditional sake, located in an area that symbolizes cultural exchange. Doburoku is a brewed alcoholic beverage made from rice and water, and it is considered the origin of sake. The ingredients are carefully selected, and the brewer uses all their skills to express the unique character of each one. Therefore, nothing goes to waste. Doburoku is an alcoholic beverage that powerfully expresses the distinct characteristics of its ingredients. This experience offers the opportunity to enjoy doburoku alongside Nagasaki's local cuisine at the brewery's on-site bar. At Dejima Hosendo, the entire process of making authentic Ginjo sake is carried out solely by the hands of a single brewer, combining the best techniques refined through years of sake brewing. Guests are welcomed by the proprietress at a modern Japanese-style counter, where a variety of house-made doburoku is served alongside small dishes inspired by Nagasaki's food culture.

5.00wonderfully personalized visit. The only advice I have: make sure all participants enjoy and drink Sake, otherwise it is a bit of a waste of time of the hosts since they really only cater to small crowds. We learned a lot about making sake, local goodies and had a great time. Our host was wonderful: friendly, charming, and super knowledgable.

5.00This is my first time drinking doboroki sake and it definitely won't be my last. The host has good conversational english. Will buy more from this brewery if I ever return to Nagasaki.

5.00This was a spectacular experience. I went there with my (grown up) kids and even though both of them don't drink*, they enjoyed the explanations and just the atmosphere a lot as well. The tasting was incredible and our host (the wife of the owner-couple) was just super friendly, provided extremely insightful information on the sakes we (well: I...) tasted and seemed unfazed that we ended up being the only clients (with only one sake fan) there for that particular tasting. I can only recommend this! (*) my only advice: make sure every participant enjoys sake - it seems a waste of seats to bring people who don't drink alcohol...

5.00We both loved this sake tasting experience. Delightful host/owner (with her husband/brewer) Sakiho, served a variety of great sake and tasty treats. These were presented in lovely antique serving bowls and plates in a small serene setting. Throughly enjoyed and highly recommended!
