• Lovely Audio Self Guided Tour

  It was lovely! We didn’t know it was an audio self guided tour, but we still really enjoyed the experienced and learned a lot. The tasting in the garden was the bet part. Great service and excellent port wine!

  The welcome at front desk was non existent. The lady was on her computer could obviously see 4 of us in front of her and she carried on as if we weren't there. When she did look up she said nothing, I said we have tickets for the tour and wine tasting she said scan that QR code and keep your phone volume low, then carried on at the computer so I asked where the wine tasting was held and she said listen to your phone it tells you! We carried on and done the tour which was very informative it would be better if a guide took you or they supplied ear phones. The wine tasting at the end in the garden was lovely we were told about the different ports we were tasting and they were all lovely. It was a very helpful young man at this point called Edi/Eddie who saved the experience from being a flop after the very poor start at the desk, he was friendly, informative, answered our questions and deserves a shout out for the care and interest he has in his work place. So thanks to Edi we had a lovely time after the terrible start, we actually asked his name as they don't wear name tags or I would have named and shamed the front desk lady its maybe what she needs! I would recommend this tour even after the non existent welcome and have taken no stars off for the one lady who spoiled it at the start. Just to let the place know that we attended 22nd June and got to the front desk about 12.25pm.

  So many port tours to choose from! We chose Taylors on the recommendation of friends and were not disappointed. Very informative as I'm sure they all are but the part that I suspect some of the other options may not have is the garden area at the end, where you sit in shade to sample your 3 port tastings. Accompanied by (optional) food which our host recommended for each port type. Olives, cheese board then an exceptional chocolate mousse to finish. The shop is of course full of very tempting bottles which I'll order when home to avoid any potential issues at airports with hand luggage

  Get off at Jardim do Morro Metro Station walk to WoW building take the lift to 4th floor then another lift outside to the next level and you will be at Taylors Winery. The self guided tour is great as you can do it at your own pace. Port tasting at the end of the tour was all a bit chaotic as there is no explanation as to what you do. Basically you find a seat and eventually someone will come along and give you glasses then the port will arrive. We asked for some cheese to accomplish the port which was €20.

  On arrival you scan your QR code with your phone for the audio guide. I returned for an audio guide, it was easier to hold and I was running my phone of the Wi-Fi which I think caused issues as it kept stopping. The beginning of the tour was a bit busy and one guest played their phone audio loudly without holding it at their ear, I found it distracting when I was listening to my own guide, reading the wall display and looking at things. The next part of the tour was to see the cellar, this was much calmer as people had spread out and we really started to enjoy it. Then you learn about the manufacturing process, I think many people moved through this quickly as it really quietened down. We enjoyed it. Then there’s a section showing you the different types of Taylor’s port and a few interactive options. At the end you go to the shop, which we thought was very good. You then sit in the bar for the tasting. This was a little disappointing as we were forgotten about. A family, and other groups were tended to before us even though we’d arrived before and been told to take a seat, and queried it. We enjoyed trying the three ports that everyone gets but on the way out noticed menus. The menus have many other options and Taylor’s (and us) missed out on us trying a more expensive/different port and other options. It was good though and I recommend it.

  What is very nice about this activity is that you get a very nice insight into how the port is made with the audio tour. Then in a great garden tasted 3 different port. Price/quality was fine. Definitely recommended.

  The experience at Taylor’s was exceptional. The walk around the distillery was very interesting and informative. The port tasting session at the end of the tour was set in beautiful gardens and was a wonderful experience from start to finish. Would highly recommend.

  Magical visit to Taylor’s - tour of the cellars, history and layout is superb ( you can’t help but learn so much about port and the Taylor’s House as it’s done in such a lovely way) Tasting with Jose Machado was fabulous ( very knowledgeable, with great attention to detail) Can’t recommend enough
