They are also known as "snow monsters." The snow monsters are formed by the combined action of strong cold air currents and snowstorms on the surface of coniferous tree branches, creating a unique snow-covered shape. The best time to see them is from January to February.

Unreliable and unprofessional tour operator

1.00We booked the tour, with information details to meet at 8am at a specific place, where the tour guide with a Lion Tour flag would meet us. We arrived early at the specified and correct place, but we only saw a blue bus, without any tour guide nor any sign to Ginzan Onsen & Mount Zao Tour. No tour guide from Lion Tour approached us if we were waiting for the said tour. Needless to say, we were left behind. Didn’t get to visit those destinations which was the highlight of my Japan tour, very very disappointing! Viator and TripAdvisor shouldn’t put this unprofessional tour operator here!
