Þórsmörk, valley of the Thunder God Thor, sits amongst three sparkling ice caps, Mýrdalsjökull, Tindfjallajökull and Eyjafjallajökull.
Sights include Gígjökull where powerful glacial floods escaped during the 2010 Eyjafjallajökull eruption. Our local guides will vividly tell you much about this eruption, including stories only locals know about.

Þórsmörk is located between three glaciers and volcanoes, Eyjafjallajokull (the one that erupted in 2010), Tindfjallajökull and Myrdalsjökull. On our way we cross glacial rivers, stop by the most interesting places including Gijokull Glacier - ice tongue of Eyjafjallajokull Volcano, and have short walks around. Inside of Þórsmörk is different hiking possibilities depending on your wishes. On our way to Þórsmörk, we also stop the canyons like Stakkholtsgjá and even at Nauthúsagil, a small beautiful canyon.

5.00This was an absolutely amazing tour. Odie drove us through rivers to places we would never have seen otherwise. We hiked to breathtaking viewpoints and stunning scenery, as well as fascinating caves. Along the way, he also provided interesting geological information and anecdotes. I highly recommend this tour. Definitely 5 stars!

5.00This was a fantastic trip with our guide Carlos. Not only did he choose excellent hikes but also he explained all the geological features around us , including all the rocks we found on the trail and to top it off he taught us some Icelandic. Highy recommended!

5.00We were traveling with Carlos in the SuperJeep, well, more like SuperBus (Mercedes Sprinter on steroids🙃). Contrary to expectations, the weather was incredibly good. Plenty of sunshine with dramatic clouds. Perfect for photos. Carlos had a lot of information for us, and we visited various canyons and gorges that we would not have been able to reach with our rental car, even though it was a 4x4. The highlight was clearly the base camp Langidalur. We took a short hike to Valahnjukur. 30 minutes steep uphill, and you are rewarded with a sensational view of two glaciers and the beautiful valley with the Föuss Krossá flowing out. To conclude, we drove through the dunes of the black sand beach with the Westman Islands in view. I was skeptical since I do not like group trips, but this one allowed for freedom and provided insights that I would not have been able to reach otherwise. Thank you, Carlos! That was a day for the photo album.

As described on the Midgard Adventure website, the company offers authentic experiences with highly experienced local guides—and that is exactly what we experienced. This was our second tour with Midgard Adventure, and we were thrilled both times. Markus was an outstanding guide: knowledgeable, dedicated, professional, and intimately familiar with the area. His experience and passion for the region greatly enriched every aspect of the tour. What truly sets Midgard Adventure apart is its people. From the very first moment, we felt warmly welcomed and well looked after. Many of the guides volunteer with local rescue services and aid organizations—a truly remarkable commitment. Knowing that the people guiding us through challenging terrain were also dedicated to their community gave us a sense of security throughout the tour. Whether hiking up mountains or through canyons, crossing rivers, or facing difficult weather conditions, we always felt completely safe and in capable hands. The organization was flawless. Harpa coordinated the entire experience perfectly, ensuring that every detail was handled smoothly and professionally. I highly recommend Midgard Adventure to anyone looking for authentic Icelandic experiences led by knowledgeable local experts.

5.00This tour far exceeded our expectations! We visited 5 beautiful locations and each one was better than the last. We absolutely loved getting to see places we wouldn’t have been able to experience without a super jeep and a guide! Thorsmork is beyond beautiful. The guide Simeon was wonderful - kind, knowledgeable and took great care of us. Lunch boxes (ordered separately from Midgard) were delicious and we highly recommend. We also had a great dinner at the base camp after the tour!

5.00Our group of four thoroughly enjoyed our Super Jeep tour. Our guide/driver Dori was great! He was friendly, knowledgeable and really cared about showing us the stunning scenery of the Thorsmork valley. We had the option of a nice hike at the midpoint of the tour, and since the weather was nice, we gladly did the out and back hike (2 miles round trip), which was followed up with a tasty sack lunch.
The most magical inner and outer adventure. There’s nowhere on earth like Iceland and no better base camp than Midgard.

5.00I first stumbled upon Midgard base camp in September 2021 at the beginning of my tour with my husband around the ring road. The warmth of the reception we received from the staff struck me immediately. I loved the cozy and tranquil yet bright and fun lounging area where travellers could play board games, relax with a book or just sit and drink the most delicious coffee. When I returned to this magical place with my daughter May 12, 2026 for a 6 day Yoga Retreat and Guided Adventures it felt like I had returned home. Once again it was the most perfect beginning to our trip. We slept so well in the comfiest of beds after warming in the hot tub by the Icelandic horse pasture and eating a heart healthy dinner. The food was full of deliciousness, you could just feel the love and attention that went into it. Pistachios crusted Arctic Char, Salmon Tagliatelle and warm brie with chutney were my favourites. From Hvolsvöllur where Midgard base camp is located, we began and ended each day with a nourishing yoga and meditation session lead by Ricardo and Anahat from Inner Truth Academy - Anahat Aday y Ricardo Marquez. Two of the most genuine, knowledgeable and caring yogi’s I have had the privilege to meet. They shared their wisdom and life tools in a safe and nurturing environment which was life changing. In between these practices we went on magnificent adventures. The adventure guides - Björg, the most beautiful of human beings and Thórir - the gentle super hero, know the hidden gems of their beautiful country. We hiked in Ölfus , drinking from a mountain stream, lounging in hot springs and exploring this geothermal wonder. We walked Sólheimajokull Glacier which had breathtaking views and exciting foot steps which I never would have experienced without the expert guidance from our Midgard guide Thórir. He also shared with us the Dyrhólaey view point of the Dyrhólaey black sand beach, and off roading in a Super Jeep to the Thórsmörk Valahnukur mountain - steep at the top with striking views. Off roading is definitely meant for a Super Jeep. The road to Thorsmork is only passable for full size 4x4 jeeps. One of the most magnificent adventures was the Canyon where we walked a riverbed to what felt like a fairy tale ending - a secret waterfall deep in the canyon. Additional adventures included hiking 638 meters up to the top of Thrihyrningur, where we had a 360 degree view of the gorgeous Icelandic landscape and were rewarded after our descent with an exquisite hot dog Bbq lunch. We worked on exercises for emotional healing, connecting with your inner guidance, opening our hearts and opening our minds. With the powerful natural Icelandic beauty and the powerful meditations and balancing tools shared in our 6 day retreat, I found an even deeper appreciation for life and a deeper gratitude for the multitude of loving kind people that inhabit this land we call Iceland Midgard is the base camp for Icelandic adventures and loving relationships. The friendships that blossomed on this retreat will remain with me eternally. This inner adventure may never be recreated but the joyful memories will remain. I will return to Midgard and I will see my new friends again one day. Thank you Bjorg, Marcus, Anahat, Ricardo, Mike, Jackie and all the Midgard family and friends for the experience of a lifetime.

5.00My husband and I spent 6 fantastic days in Iceland, and our super jeep tour with Midgard Adventure in Thórsmörk was perhaps the most incredible day of them all! Our guide, Torri (apologies if the spelling is incorrect) was amazing! He took us on an unforgettable trip through this stunning part of the country and packed it full of great stories, facts, hikes, views, and memories I will have for a lifetime. Torri was also excellent about ensuring everyone was comfortable and went at a pace that was good for them. If we wanted to press on to a particular area, we were encouraged to take our time and not rush. If anyone hit a point where they wanted to turn back or stay put, he was also very accommodating. I would heartily recommend this to anyone who wants a truly spectacular experience in the Icelandic highlands!
