The Story of Boston told on the Freedom Trail differs from all other Freedom Trail offerings in that it covers not only our celebrated Revolutionary sites, but gives visitors a full history of our city. We cover the story, from the early punitive and superstitious Puritans, to the Revolution, the boom years as 'America's Harbor and finally the ascension of the Irish Catholics bringing us to the Hub we know. Along the way, rascals and residents from Ho Chi Minh, Carles Ponzi and Malcolm X to Mayor James Michael Curley, our 'Robin Hood,' are covered.

Boston Common

Begin your journey at Boston Common, the oldest public park in America. Learn about its storied past, from colonial military drills to civil rights rallies, and appreciate its role as a gathering place throughout the centuries. The townspeople pastured their cattle on its forty-five acres, gathered for hangings and duels, and in more genteel times strolled beneath the elms on its promenade.

Park Street Church

Park Street Church is known for its significant contributions to the abolitionist movement and its fervent missionary activity. Hear about the famous speeches and influential figures who stood here advocating for freedom and justice. The church hosted the debut of “My Country, ‘Tis of Thee,” also known as “America,” by Samuel Francis Smith on July 4, 1831

Great if you love detailed history. Can be long if you are looking for the “high points” of Boston history.

The tour guide was extremely knowledgeable of the history of Boston. But this is a *highly* historical tour with *a lot* of granular detail. As a family, you will see areas that may be a little sketch (people drugged out in Boston Common, homeless person yelling profanities at the group and tour guide) but honestly, that’s pretty typical for a city. This may be too long and detailed to keep the interest of kids (mine are teenagers). That said, the tour delivered exactly what was described.

Great tour. The $ 10.00 charge was a bit misleading since the guide relied solely on tips. The “free” tour wasn’t free. Never the less we had a great time.

Wow, what a terrific tour of Boston history! We especially liked the anecdotes about notable characters and politicians. Who knew that Ho Chi Minh was a baker at the Parker house!

Stephen was a great tour guide! He was incredibly informative and had several unique stories & facts about Boston and kept us thoroughly entertained! We learned SO much through his tour, we felt like we knew Boston. Highly recommend!!

This tour is amazing! Stephen is a zealous Boston historian, who brings Boston history to life through compelling stories and amusing lore. He knows so much! And he’s pieced together an enchanting story of Boston. Our tour day was frigid, and he was so mindful to take frequent indoor breaks. We even loved stopping for coffee and learning more about Stephen and others on our tour. We hope to go back on a warmer day to really engage and absorb all Stephen has to offer. You should definitely go!!

As Aussies in holiday, we found this tour to be really entertaining and informative about the history of Boston. Stephen was absolutely fantastic, really knowledgeable and a great story teller. Highly recommend it!
