The discovery of the prehistoric town of Akrotiri will amaze you! One of the most advanced towns of the ancient world was destroyed and lost beneath a thick layer of volcanic ash for millenniums due to the volcanic eruption of 1613 b.C. That volcanic eruption changed the ancient world and somehow inspired a very known myth... Atlantis! Together with an archaeologist-licensed tourist guide, you will walk through the narrow alleys of the prehistoric city where you will realize the importance of that ancient culture even nowadays! But most of all you will learn about the beginning of the Myth dedicated to the lost city of Atlantis!

5.00Ioannis was extremely knowledgeable and interesting! I highly recommend booking with him and not just walkthrough on your own. I loved everything I learned, and can't wait to return in the future when they start digging other sites, or Ioannis proves his thesis. Helpful hint, book an afternoon tour, which Ioannis said is a better time due to less crowds. Because the site is covered, it is not too hot inside, thank goodness! A bonus, there are very cute doggies to pet.

5.00We thoroughly enjoyed having Ioannis guide us through the Archaeological site. He was knowledgable and passionate and did a wonderful job of giving both an overview for context and explaining the details. We were lucky to have the site mainly to ourselves in the early afternoon, and because it is completely covered, sun wasn't an issue. He mentioned that it tends to be much busier in the mornings. Because he is one of the archeologists who has worked on the site, he was able to give an insider perspective and to explain why the site hasn't been fully excavated. It was nice to be able to support a working archeologist through booking this tour!

5.00Our guide Giannis was knowledgeable and engaging. He easily captured the attention of our 3 boys (6, 9 and 12), explained in relatable terms, was patient and answered their many questions.

2.00When we first got to the gate we looked for our guide, but he didn't have a sign or any identifying information to let us know it was him. Our entry to the site was not included in the costly price of the short informational we received. While the archeologist was knowledgeable, my friend and I were rushed through the sight, barely having time to question anything, no time to look at anything but what he rushed us through. We originally had a time for 12:30, but our guide changed it to 2:30, while the site closed at 3:30. We had absolutely no time to look around at a reasonable pace. We were rushed out due to closing, leaving us no time to look at the gift shop, either. Very disappointing, very expensive for what we received.

5.00Our guided tour of Akrotiri was a huge highlight of our trip, and I cannot praise Ioannis enough. He was such an amazing guide, it was so cool to have someone leading us who actually worked on the dig. He was so informative, and his presentation was fascinating. We cannot thank him enough and I would recommend him to everyone considering it?

5.00This was one of the most fascinating tours we did on our trip to Greece. I highly recommend Giannis as he is so knowledgeable and we learned so much about the history of Akrotiri and Santorini. You should follow this visit with a trip to the Museum of Prehistoric Thira to see the frescoes and objects they recovered from the site.

5.00This was the best money we spent in all of Santorini. Ioannis was a magnificent tour guide who with all his archeological experience, including having worked at the site, was an amazing story teller and he brought the site to life. Would highly recommend!
