Your experience begins at Umeda Sky Building, just a 5-minute walk from the host’s bright, sun-filled home studio. Here, you’ll learn the fundamentals of Japanese calligraphy (shodo) from an instructor with 10+ years of experience and award-winning calligraphy. Choose your own word — your name in kanji, or a meaningful word like “peace,” “love,” or “dream” — and learn proper brush techniques using traditional tools: brush, ink, and washi paper. Your instructor guides you through stroke order and brush control at your own pace. It’s meditative, creative, and surprisingly relaxing. Once your artwork is complete, it’s mounted in a beautiful frame, ready to take home as a meaningful souvenir of your time in Osaka. After creating, you’ll whisk your own matcha latte using traditional tea tools, then settle in with a Japanese sweet. 5.00A morning above our expectations! Satoru and Saori welcomed us with kindness and warmth. We spent a very pleasant morning with them: in an intimate and familiar environment they taught us with patience and attention the first rudiments of Kanji art: first we chose our "words", then we practiced with brush and ink on paper and finally on tablet. All while having a pleasant conversation both in English and with their translator. While we waited for our work to dry, they offered us a delicious snack with a pumpkin sweet. We loved it and really recommend it. We were just sorry that we didn't know about their other proposals earlier (for example, Saori also offers cooking workshops) because we would definitely participate. Unfortunately we were in Osaka only one day.

5.00It was a private and quiet space, so I could really relax and enjoy the experience. I saw a few other calligraphy experiences available, but this one stood out because I got to take my artwork home. I gave it as a gift to my family, and they absolutely loved it — they even said it looked like a real piece of art! The teacher was kind and patient, which made the whole experience feel really comfortable. I think decorating the calligraphy in a wreath is the best way to display it — it looks so beautiful!

4.00Our little one gets bored quickly, but here we could join the activities when he was interested and just relax when needed. The play area and TV were a lifesaver — it made the whole experience super easy and fun for all of us. Perfect break during our Osaka trip!
