Travel through four of Portland’s quadrants, and explore 8 to 10 of the city’s unique districts by foot and our European-style streetcar. Stroll, taste, see and learn about what makes Portland so special, with accompaniment of a passionate local, and 2.5–4 miles of slow-paced walking (4–7 km).
Starting at Director Park at the edge of the Cultural District in Portland, we will begin our exploration with short streetcar segments interspersed by leisurely walks through several districts. Learn about the Art Museum, visit the Pearl District, explore the historically industrial Slabtown. See the mural district and the space-age buildings in the South Waterfront and into the University District. Walk park blocks and fountains that made the name for Portland’s urban planning, and also brought us into conflict over racial and cultural ideals. Explore how Portland’s activist spirit has challenged its government and structures, before returning you to the center of the city, Pioneer Square.

Director Park
At Teacher's Fountain in the northeast corner of Director Park, 815 SW Park Ave, at the edge of the Cultural District in Portland, we will begin our exploration. Meet your guide and begin your day by a walk through the shade of the old giant elms as you walk past the art museum for your first streetcar ride into the Pearl District.
South Park Blocks
Your walk to the first streetcar stop will take us through the Park Blocks and past some of the monuments and public art here.

5.00New to Portland, I found this tour to be an excellent introduction to the city through its public transit system. Angela, my guide, was friendly, knowledgeable, and provided great insight into Portland’s history and neighborhoods. We explored many different areas of the city, and I came away with a much better understanding of Portland and how to navigate it. I highly recommend this tour.

Kelly is very knowledgeable about the neighborhoods and passionate about Portland and public transportation and her enthusiasm comes across in a very positive way. It’s a great tour!

5.00Kelly was a dynamic tour guide, sharing lots of local knowledge including Portland’s vibe. We absolutely learned so much “behind the scenes” neighborhood culture and history. A definite tour to experience before wandering the Portland downtown and suburbs. Great fun to ride the light rail and walk the beautiful communities surrounding the city.

5.00This was an interesting and comprehensive tour by streetcar and walking around multiple neighborhoods in Portland. Did you know that there are 90 neighborhoods in Portland? You could tell that Kelly loves Portland.

5.00I am 65, first time to Portland on a solo trip. This was my first day, I picked this tour since I was hoping to get a feel for navigating the city. Shannon was my guide, I couldn't be happier. She taught me how to use the public transit with confidence, even had a card and map for me, I never once used Uber/Lyft. When the tour concluded I knew about the other sites I wanted to see (and how to get there), history and current events. Shannon had the answers to all my questions and then some. I absolutely recommend this tour, particularly for your first day to get your bearings, build confidence in a new location which made all the difference for me. I had such a great time I'm already planning my trip back. Thank you Shannon!

5.00Great combination of walking and streetcar through different Portland neighborhoods. Do this one first so you learn the transportation systems. Potential for extra stops at places you pass if the timing works out ( I managed to snag a mimosa during ours). Angela is a Portland transplant who clearly loves the area and was able to share lots of info and current events.

5.00What a wonderful tour. I got to see really cool neighborhoods in Portland riding streetcars and walking. My tour guide gave some history as well as pointing out cool buildings and things to see. I loved it.😊 I recommend this informative tour. I feel I know downtown Portland better now and I can say, I want to come back.

5.00Shannon did an amazing job guiding us through the city. This tour is a great way to learn how to use the local streetcar system and get an idea of neighborhoods you may want to further explore while in the area. The tour was set at a leisurely place with plenty of time for snacks and bathrooms breaks along the way. I recommend taking this tour at the beginning of your trip.

5.00This is a fascinating way to see Portland. The combination of using the street cars in conjunction with a guided walk makes for a great experience. You get to see much more of Portland than you could possibly cover just on foot. It's a great way to get a sense of the variety of Portland neighborhoods as well as the history of the city. Our guide was very knowledgeable, enthusiastic and fun and gave us a great sense of what makes Portland tick. Very highly recommended.

5.00We had so much fun! We only had a limited time so we chose this tour as a good overview. Riding the streetcar and getting out to walk in neighborhoods and industrial districts was such a novel way to travel; it was like going around with a good friend who gets off to show you their favorites. but the good friend is a great storyteller. thank you so much to the around Portland tours crew for a great day! we lucked out with some beautiful weather but I think it would be a nice tour in the rain too because a lot is inside on the streetcar.
