Dihua Street
Step into the timeless streets of Dihua, Taipei’s oldest trading district, where red-brick storefronts, fragrant apothecaries, and generations of culinary traditions create a feast for the senses. As we wander through this historic neighborhood, you'll discover how centuries of commerce, migration, and culture have shaped some of Taiwan’s most beloved flavors. We waste no time diving into the local food scene, beginning with a selection of iconic Taiwanese street snacks. Taste the famous pig’s blood cake (豬血糕), a uniquely Taiwanese treat with a delightfully chewy texture and irresistible sweet-savory flavor. Then savor a steaming bowl of braised pork rice (滷肉飯), the comforting national favorite that has earned its reputation as Taiwan’s ultimate soul food. Along the way, we’ll pause for a refreshing cup of herbal grass tea (青草茶), a traditional drink crafted from medicinal herbs and enjoyed by locals for generations.
Step inside the historic Yongle Market, the beating heart of Dadaocheng and one of Taipei’s oldest marketplaces. Beneath its beautiful red-brick facade, generations of merchants and food vendors have kept local traditions alive, creating a vibrant snapshot of old Taipei. As we wander through its bustling corridors of fabric shops, fresh produce, and family-run stalls, we'll sample a few local favorites, such as artisanal baos and some of Taiwan’s famous seasonal fruits.

Dave was a considerate tour guide and we had twelve tasting including a tea. The dishes were the following. He was able to accommodate nut and seafood allergy from two guests. We had 12 people. A large group - pork blood cake. Not as bad as it sounds - braised pork rice with braised tofu and green veggie on the side - stinky tofu very tame - grass jelly tea - gua bao with pork belly - wheel pie with custard cream - scallion cake too oily - cooked in same oil as shrimp cakes. So no good for my daughter with seafood allergy - peanut roll with ice cream - sweet potato balls - airy mochi balls - tiny shot of Chinese liquor - 38% alcohol. Nice finish and surprise Overall a nice walk around dihua neighborhood and end in ningxia market $50 a person is a bit pricey since the food probably only cost about $10-12 total but it’s nice to meet people from Australia, England and America and hear a little explanation of the food and also stop by a temple in the middle. He also lead us to fairly clean bathroom during tour. Very helpful since I had to go twice. Overall we liked it
