As the original electric bicycle tour in Southeast Alaska, we're excited for you to join us on an easy, enjoyable ride on the "road to nowhere". This road dead ends at the edge of the dense Tongass National Forest, an extensive wilderness where you will then take an enjoyable, guided, educational hike along a well maintained trail beside an active salmon spawning stream. The hiking features a beautiful waterfall along the path as well as stunning beach views with potential to spot intertidal creatures, black bears and marine mammals along the coast. The dense rainforest is the highlight of the loop trail through the Tongass and is always changing throughout the season. After enjoying your guided hike you'll return to your e-bikes to cycle back to our marina for smoked salmon snacks along with vegan options and beverages. All our tours provide round trip transportation from both the Downtown Cruise docks & the New Dock at Ward Cove. Excellent rain gear is provided should you need it.

Tongass National Forest
After a dozen years of running kayak tours in Ketchikan, we're consistently surprised at the number of visitors who never set foot in the Rain Forest. Our E-Bike tour originated from a desire to get more visitors into this amazing rain forest. With almost 200 inches of rain annually, there really is no place as lush and unique as Southeast Alaska. The forest floor is bountiful with all kinds of Flora and Fauna and depending on the time of season its not unusual to see deer or or salmon swimming up stream. Port times for most folks are very limited, so we wanted to maximize your time by combining multiple activities on this tour. Plus we wanted to offer more than just a hiking tour anyway. So we made the trip to the trailhead half the adventure in itself. The ocean views along the hike and from our scenic marina are a big bonus! It's not unheard of to see Porpoises, Seals and Sea Lions or sometimes Humpbacks or Orcas from the beach.

Electric assist bicycles are bicycles. You pedal them and shift gears like any other bike. They are very quiet in operation and are not classified as a motorized vehicle. These bikes have multiple levels of peddle assist allowing you to choose how much exercise you want to get. Peddling is necessary. We can cover more distance using e-bikes than conventional bicycles, you don't have to worry about keeping up, and they are the perfect way to get just the amount of exercise you're after. They are very accommodating with a step-through frame so you don't have to throw a leg over the bike to get on and off. We recharge our e-bikes with hydro power so they are a clean source of fun. Our tour usually max's out at 10 people, so no chance of getting lost in the crowd. Get out of town with us on your visit to Ketchikan this summer!

Great guides in Austin and Emily. Would definitely recommend! They made it a great experience. The weather was also much calmer than expected given the rain in the forecast.

Staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. Facility provided waterproof rain gear which was a huge convenience. We had brought our own but thiers were definitely high quality gear that kept us dry. We biked in the rain and then hiked in the rain forest for a short distance. We walked down to the waterline at rise of low tide. Staff found sea creatures for our group to see and hold. They helped everyone to take pictures of the group. Outstanding experience. Only downside was the weather. Rained 80% of tour which made it hard to enjoy scenery during bikeride.

The hike should have been longer. The bike ride was nice. However, I thought it would be a trail in the woods.

If you've never ridden an e-bike, this tour is a great introduction. They even supply water-repellant jackets. Our guide, Amy, narrated a great tour though the rain forest and showed us which plants are edible. Depending on the time of year, you might see waterfalls, bears tide pools, or salmon swimming upstream. This was a great excursion from our Norwegian cruise ship, and the perfect level of exercise after a few days of eating and napping.

We had an incredible time! The bikes were in perfect working order and the tour guides were fantastic. The meeting location was simple to find (be sure to look on their website for pictures of the meeting point). They picked us up in comfortable 15 passenger vans and took us to their location. The location had bathroom facilities that were very clean. Austin and Vessa were our tour guides and were so knowledgeable about the area and had an obvious passion for what they do. They were very kind and took a lot of time explaining different things we were seeing. They were truly fantastic. The bike ride and hike were very easy and not strenuous at all. The hardest part of it all was walking the bike up a hill before the ride but it was super short and everyone in our group was able to do it just fine. This was a great way to experience the area and learn more about the rain forest in Alaska. I would highly recommend this excursion and especially this company to anyone! Thank you for such a memorable time!

Exciting e-bike ride to Tongass Rain Forest. Our guide and his coworker did an excellent job with everything. Our guide through the forest, Austin, was very knowledgeable and did a great job educating us about the local Alaskan plants and wildlife. Definitely recommend this experience

You have about a 25 minute ride from the pickup out to the biking and hiking spot. It was a beautiful day and our guide Austin was very knowledgeable regarding all plant life and animal life in this beautiful area. We saw about 8 bald eagles flying and playing with each other.

My friend and I booked this tour through Shore Excursions Group in conjunction with our Celebrity cruise last month. After viewing the tour directly on this website, I noticed it costs $160 and allows cancellations up to 24 hours in advance. Shore Excursions Group charged us $225 and offered no cancellation option unless the vendor canceled the tour. Based on that experience, I would recommend booking directly rather than through Shore Excursions Group. For context, I have participated in many bike tours throughout the southeastern U.S. and Europe, and I own a Trek e-bike. As a result, my perspective may differ somewhat from someone with limited e-bike experience. If this is your first time riding an e-bike, you’ll likely be impressed by how effortless it feels. That may help explain many of the glowing reviews. Overall, the tour was enjoyable, especially because our guide, Austin, was knowledgeable, friendly, and very helpful. However, there were a few aspects of the biking portion that could be improved. First, the bikes were all quite large and heavy. While they were step-through models, which makes mounting easier, bike sizes exist for a reason. My friend and I are 5’3” and 5’0”, and we would have appreciated the option of riding smaller bikes that were easier to maneuver and handle. The company appeared to have plenty of bikes available, but apparently none in smaller sizes. Second, before the ride began, we had to push these heavy bikes up a steep hill before we could even get on and ride. We were fit enough to manage it, but we were winded by the time we reached the top, and it wasn’t an ideal way to start the tour. I’ve never encountered this requirement on any other bike tour, including those in the hills of Tuscany. It seems like there should be a better solution for the starting location. Third, much of the ride takes place along a two-lane highway with vehicle traffic. While you’ll see a lake and a couple of waterfalls, you won’t actually be riding through the forest. The tour includes approximately 10 miles of biking on the road and a one-mile hike. The hiking portion, which takes place in the forest and along the beach, was the highlight of the experience and was thoroughly enjoyable. Some friends of ours chose the three-mile forest hike without the biking component. As much as I enjoy cycling, I think the hike-only option may have been the better choice.
