Oaxaca
This lunchtime food tour explores Oaxaca at its most vibrant, when markets and street carts are at their best. Known as Mexico’s culinary capital, the food culture is best experienced through its local dishes, prepared at market stalls and long-standing neighbourhood spots. With 15+ tastings, the tour offers a crash course into the essential flavours of Oaxaca. The experience begins with traditional favourites such as frothy chocolate de agua and a warm memela topped with pork crackling, followed by entomatadas and the ancient tejate. You’ll sample classic Oaxacan dishes, tamal de mole, quesillo cheese, and tender taco de cabeza. Further highlights include empanadas de mole amarillo, bold tostadas de chileajo, and tortas de cecina seasoned with local spices. The tour finishes with traditional sweets like crisp gaznate filled with meringue. This guided lunchtime walk provides an authentic and flavour-packed way to experience Oaxaca’s food culture beyond the main tourist routes.

5.00This is an excellent tour that I would thoroughly recommend. I am so glad I picked it! Come hungry, as you certainly get to try some marvelous food across the city. Alejandra was a marvelous guide—she was knowledgeable, extremely friendly, and took the time to explain the significance of the different dishes. It all felt like excellent value for money. We tried food we wouldn't have found otherwise and learned so much about the city. Thank you, Alejandra, you were amazing!

We loved getting to try more local spots that we wouldn’t have known about otherwise and learning about the rich history of food in Oaxaca from Ale and Dora, who were incredibly knowledgeable. The tortas stop was our favorite!! The amount of food was also thankfully manageable if you’re a good eater.

5.00Fantastic tour. My partner and I were lucky to be the only 2 people on the tour so had hosts Dora and Ali(?) to ourselves. They were both were super friendly and knowledgeable and gave us a great introduction to Oaxacan cuisine, enabling us to really eat like locals and visit places we would otherwise have missed, especially market and street food stalls. Absolutely delicious and highly recommended.

5.00Hands down the best food tour in Oaxaca. I was lucky to be the only one that booked for the day, so I got a personalised experience! I don't know where to start - every part of the tour was excellently thought out, from explaining the methods of cooking to the history of the dish (Oaxaca has a very rich history which is reflected through their food!). The guides were so friendly and hard working, making sure all my questions were answered. They ensured I always had water, and anytime I had to go to the bathroom they'd point me to the right direction. The variety of food was extremely good for the price paid, it wasn't just bites, it was full on street food portions. We went to a market that is more popular with locals than tourists, then even a small mezcal tasting which taught me more than the standard tours that go to the mezcalerias as a day trip. If I could rate this more than 5 stars, I would. Honestly what made it so special were the guides. Thank you for teaching me things about your culture!

5.00We had an awesome time on this tour with Dora. She was very nice, polite, and informative. The food she took us to was delicious, and we got to try things we wouldn’t have ordered on our own. Highly recommend if you’re visiting Oaxaca, especially for the first time!
