Kolam is a traditional art originated in South India. It is a tradition for women to practice it every morning by putting ephemeral patterns on the front door. It is a way to meditate and also to invite Goddess and prosperity to their home. In this 1.5-hour class, you will not only learn how to make kolam, but also get some insight about Indian culture. Both children over 6 years old and adults are welcome to experience this unique culture of India!

Sita Cultural Center
This unique Kolam class takes place at Sita Cultural Center in Pondicherry starting at 10:00 am for morning class or 3:00 pm for afternoon class. During the 1.5-hour class, your friendly and professional instructor will explain how to use the rice powder and color powder to make a nice kolam. Kolam realization is a special moment for every Indian woman especially in South India. You are welcome to send us your own designs after you are back home.

5.00A beautiful experience of transmission by Keerthi of the art of the Kolams. His presentation was clear and accessible, and allowed us to take the time to familiarize ourselves with the gesture of the route. We were able to practice kolam fairly quickly, while discovering the different types of patterns, and appreciating their cultural and ritual context. I highly recommend this workshop for a first introduction to this exciting graphic practice.

5.00We did several activities at Sita-the morning bike ride, the Kolam workshop, an Indian cooking class and sound healing. The staff were consistently superb and so we enjoyed everything we did there. We gained wonderful insights into the fascinating local culture through all the classes and can highly recommend this place for authentic experiences in Pondicherry.

5.00Brilliant class, learnt alot history about kolam and did practise some. My daughter 6yr old loved it, the teacher was very friendly towards her. Will definitely recommend!

5.00We really enjoyed class. It was really brilliant. I can thoroughly recommend it wholeheartedly. It was nice to not only learn the techniques but also to understand the background to the art. The lady giving the training knew her art very well and was skilled at passing her knowledge on.

5.00Superb teacher "Critica" she was very patient and took us through the history and the method. We were then taken through the process of how and given practical tuition in the four types of Kolam.. I would highly recommend this to anyone..

5.00We booked the Kolam class and a Sound and healing session. Both were well run with very knowledgeable instructors who put everyone at ease. We are on holiday from the UK and the Sita cultural centre has helped us learn more about the local culture and community. Well done for the great selection of classes provided
