A fast and fun wildlife adventure awaits your family aboard our zodiac-style vessels (rigid inflatable boats). This cruise of up to 20 passengers gives you a thrilling 2-hour look at Southern California’s year-round whales and dolphins. With speeds of 30 knots or more, you’ll spend less time looking for animals and more time enjoying them! Your zodiac adventure will have you incredibly close to the ocean’s surface and within arm’s reach of wildlife. At the conclusion of your cruise, you'll receive one of Mrs. Capt. Dave's famously delicious Triple Fudge Brownies. (Some folks love the brownies more than the whales!)
We are a certified Responsible Whale Watching partner with the World Cetacean Alliance located in Dana Point, CA, the Dolphin and Whale Capital of the World®, and the first Whale Heritage Site in the Americas.

Your exhilarating adventure departs from Dana Point, the first Whale Heritage Site in the Americas, and the Dolphin & Whale Watching Capital of the World®. May through October you could see the largest animals on earth, magnificent Blue Whales. December through April you could witness the incredible Gray Whale migration. And throughout the year you’ll have the opportunity to see Humpback Whales, Fin Whales, Minke Whales, sometimes Orcas (Killer Whales), and so much more. Several species of wild dolphins, some in pods numbering up to 10,000, are seen year-round. Upon arrival you’ll find free parking and a warm smile from our “Dolphin Deck” team. If you or one of your guests is celebrating a special occasion, such as a birthday or anniversary, be sure to let us know when reserving so that we can arrange for a special greeting. Check in about 30 to 45 minutes in advance. Then relax under a blue umbrella and enjoy a sandwich, snacks, ice cream, cold beverage, or hot coffee with the best view of Dana Point Harbor, until you’re escorted to the boat. Nearby restrooms are available to use prior to boarding.

5.00Capt E and Amanda were wonderful, professional guides for our great trip. We got lucky- dolphin stampedes, humpbacks,(multiple)- with a pectoral wave and a fluke sighting…minkes, a sea lion, so many birds and a sunfish. The zodiac is definitely my preferred trip, but I’ll take any opportunity to view our rich ocean life. Too busy being in the moment for pictures.

5.00My daughter and I are repeat customers of Captain Dave’s and have always enjoyed an amazing time! Our most recent trip was June 12th with Captain Elier and his first mate Andy. The two of them were absolutely wonderful and as thrilled as the rest of our group when we came across a breaching humpback whale. We had such a great time! Captain Dave’s is the best!

5.00We had an excellent experience on Capt Dave's Whale and Dolphin Watching Tour. Although it initially seemed we might return without seeing whales or dolphins, Capt E received a report of humpback whales farther away. Giselle, the marine specialist, asked if passengers were happy to extend the trip, and everyone agreed. The extra time was well worth it. We saw a large pod of dolphins and three humpback whales in their natural habitat, making for an unforgettable experience. The crew were knowledgeable, friendly, and passionate about marine life and conservation, which added greatly to the tour. An outstanding experience, excellent value for money, and highly recommended.

5.00We had a wonderful time on our whale watching trip. Captain Gary was very informative. Dawn was also on our trip which was also a treat to learn about the birds. We saw a couple of fin whales!!! We also tons of dolphins!

5.00We had done whale watching on a bigger boat, which was disappointing as there was no telling which side of the boat and wildlife would appear. On this boat everyone could easily see everything and anything. And a big thank you to Marie, our Captain, and Alan, our first mate. They were very knowledgeable and helped us understand what we were seeing and when/where/how to expect it. We saw so many dolphins and even a pair of fin whales and a small minke whale. We were able to ride and watch for quite some time. Excellent experience. It does get chilly on the ride out and back so an extra later would be advisable.

5.00We went on the private yacht tour with Captain Gary! He was awesome and had so much knowledge about the animals! We saw 2 humpback whales, 2 Minke whales, tons of dolphins, and sea lions! It was a magical trip with my best friends! Thank you Captain Gary for an unforgettable trip on the water!

5.00We had an amazing trip with Amanda and Marie! We were so lucky to see minke whales, a humpback, about 600 dolphin, and more!! We really enjoyed the zodiac - it was super fast so we could cover a lot of ground. Marie was a fantastic captain and I hope we get her again. And Amanda was simply amazing! So much knowledge and a great sense of humor! They both are clearly passionate about the animals and we loved it. And of course they have the best brownies in so cal!

5.00Loved this trip! The zodiac was the best way to see everything! We saw a humpback and dolphins so close. The dolphins were playing right by the boat. Almost could touch them. Captain Gary was great; definitely felt safe. He was very educated on the sea life. First mate Hannah was so fun! She was so excited about everything. Loved her enthusiasm for us seeing sea life. You could tell the whole crew cared for the sea life and also wanted us to have the best time. We absolutely did! Will come back again for sure.

5.00Absolutely phenomenal experience, went this morning (June 2) as a last full day on our vacation, was introduced to the crew, Captain Alex, first mate Daelyn and photographer Hannah, these really made the trip for us! Lots of energy and actual knowledge and Alex’s piloting skill and spinning the boat on a dime to look at a sunfish! Photos made during the time at sea personalised with your group photo (if taken) with animals around the border which was a lovely idea. We took 2 full sized a4 photos of some of the baby dolphins. I wish we lived here!! I’d be out a lot more as they treat the regulars with the upmost respect and make a nice returning name call at the start of the tour! Thankyou girls and Alex, if we ever return you’ll bet we’ll rebook!
