  My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed this tour from the moment we were picked up from our hotel. Mr Hung was incredibly knowledgeable and shared a wealth of information about the Vietnam conflict and its impact on the region. He guided us through each area efficiently, keeping the tour moving at a comfortable pace without ever making us feel rushed. Travelling to the Cu Chi area by river was a fantastic experience. The comfortable speedboat ride allowed us to take in the sights and local life along the river, adding an extra dimension to the tour. We would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Vietnam.

• The Best Way to Visit the Cu Chi Tunnels

  Our guide, Denny, met us in the hotel reception and escorted us to the waiting vehicle before taking us to the waterbus dock. Once there, we boarded the speedboat for the journey to the Cu Chi Tunnels. Fresh fruit was waiting for us onboard, which was a nice touch, and life jackets were provided and worn throughout the journey. It was reassuring to see safety being taken seriously. The journey from Ho Chi Minh City took around an hour and was a far more pleasant way to travel than sitting in traffic on the roads. Watching the city gradually give way to greener surroundings was an experience in itself. Upon arrival, Denny led us around the site, explaining the various aspects of life within the tunnels during the Vietnam War. He covered how the Viet Cong lived, moved supplies, fought against American forces and constructed the various traps that became infamous during the conflict. We also saw bomb craters left by B-52 strikes, which really helped put the scale of the war into perspective. One of the highlights was the opportunity to enter and crawl through a section of the tunnels ourselves. Visitors can attempt up to 100 metres, with exit points every 20 metres. We managed the first 20 metres before making a tactical withdrawal. After each exit point the tunnels become progressively smaller, and between my size and Megan’s back issues, we decided discretion was the better part of valour. Even so, those 20 metres were enough to gain a real appreciation of how incredibly difficult life underground must have been. We also had the chance to sample tapioca, one of the staple foods eaten by the Viet Cong during the conflict, before watching a short documentary about the Cu Chi fighters. This provided useful additional context and helped bring the stories we had heard throughout the morning together. Lunch was served before we boarded the speedboat for the return journey to Ho Chi Minh City. Overall, this was an extremely informative and worthwhile excursion. Denny was knowledgeable, engaging and clearly passionate about the history he was sharing. The Cu Chi Tunnels offer a fascinating insight into a significant chapter of Vietnam’s past, and visiting the site gave us a much greater appreciation of the ingenuity, resilience and hardships experienced during the conflict. If you are considering a visit, I would highly recommend choosing the speedboat option over road transport.   This tour was perfect in every way. The speedboat to the tunnels was not only fast and great fun but a lovely way to see the city from a different perspective. Our tour guide, Mr Chi, was not only friendly and knowledgeable, but wickedly funny with sense of humour à la his beloved Only Fools and Horses that would’ve made John Sullivan proud! Not one for reciting dull textbook facts and figures, he was one of the most interesting, engaging, and informative guides that we have ever had. In addition to everything else, he worked hard to keep us ahead of the other tour groups so that we didn’t have to queue for anything, which was hugely appreciated given the intense heat and humidity on the day of our tour. It was flawlessly executed from start to finish, and with the able assistance of the drivers, Mr Chi ensured that we all had a brilliant experience. Many thanks to all who made this such a great day.

  Great way to travel to the Cu Chi tunnels. Yo was a very informative guide. I thought I knew a lot about the Vietnam war era, but I learnt a lot more.

  Our tour guide was amazing. Exceptional story telling abilities matched the setting that we were in for an authentic experience. The tour of a lifetime. The youngest in our group was my son who was 10 and my mum joined us also who is 70. Although she didn’t go down the tunnel it didn’t deter her experience. We weren’t rushed and the lunch was amazing.

  An informative and fascinating day out. Great speedboat transfers which made things so much more fun than a bus or car. But the highlight was our guide Danny who was so knowledgeable and humorous. There was no question he couldn’t answer, and he was a delight to be with. Thank you so much
