2.00For something with a UNESCO Heritage tag, this train ride seemed poorly managed and highly overrated. To begin with, the carriages have not been maintained in their original state (as one would expect), now done up with garish plastic all over. Even the “First Class” window glasses were so dirty that it was impossible to see through them. The much hyped “scenic” ride started through stinking piles of garbage common to most city outskirts and what few sights the ride could have offered enroute were shrouded by trees and bushes. The route may be historic, but definitely not presented as such. TTDC could do a lot to make this route a tourist friendly memorable ride : cleanliness, commentary, appropriate midway stops, some literature and memorabilia could make this an “experience” instead of the ordinary train ride it is now. And will someone PLEASE tell the Indian Railway to stop using these noisy diesel locomotives at least on such routes ? So much for being environment friendly.
