See platypus in their natural habitat. It is possible to see platypus at any time of the day, but our best chance is just after dawn.
We pick you up from your Byron Bay accommodation and drive to the special platypus area. From there we start our 2 km easy walk along the creek looking for platypus.
We usually see one or two platypus, and loads of birds. After watching the platypus have their breakfast we relax with ours – a picnic by the creek – before returning to Byron Bay.
We can’t guarantee platypus sightings on this tour, but don’t worry. If we don’t see them we take you on another day, free.

Vision Walks - Eco Tours

Your guide will lead you at a gentle pace, showing you what to look for and sharing insights about this much-loved and quirky Australian animal. We usually see one or two platypus, loads of birds and sometimes even koalas. After watching the platypus have their breakfast we relax with ours – a picnic by the creek – before returning to Byron Bay. We can’t guarantee platypus sightings on this tour, but don’t worry. If we don’t see them we take you on another day, free. Please let us know if you have any special dietary requirements when you book

5.00A beautiful park to wonder through searching the creek for plataplus we did see one swimming and a lot of ripples but they were to well camouflaged for us to sight them. Lots of water dragon's ducks and birds. Also a gorgeous display of water lily flowers. Wendy supplied a delicious picnic breakfast and lots of details we were not aware of about plataplus. Can't wait to do another walk with vision tours 😃

5.00Wendy was very helpful, keeping me up to date on the likelihood of the tour going ahead, due to numbers of bookings and the weather, and offering alternatives. Luckily it went ahead and we saw a platypus even though it was raining and the water more murky than usual. The picnic was good, with local ingredients too. Wendy is a hive of information it was a fascinating tour.

She provides a worthwhile experience and I would highly recommend Vision Walk Eco Tours to anyone who wants to see Australian wildlife in their natural habitat.

5.00I can highly recommend this tour! We’ve been keen on finding a platypus in the wild for ages, and we finally found one with this tour! Wendy was professional and warm, and had a really lovely mannerism about her. She was knowledgeable and thanks to her, we managed to follow one little guy for about 30 minutes - he was too cute! We then had a picnic breakfast afterwards and it was delish. So worth it! If you’ve been looking to see one of them out and about, you need to book this tour!

5.00Amazing experience for nature lovers. Informative tour guide who was just lovely, she has invested a lot of time finding locations that ensure a high spotting rate and on the day we saw 3 - 4 multiple times. For photographers highly recommend taking more video than photos - the morning light conditions, distance and speed with which they appear and disappear makes getting a good clear shot challenging even for top-tier equipment. Regret not simply taking more footage. Breakfast afterwards was a good and healthy start to the day.

5.00I absolutely loved this tour and would do it again. It was the first time that I had seen a platypus in the wild and I was not disappointed! Our group was lucky enough to spot not one, but six individuals! It was an easy and pretty walk in a surprising location. Tom was a wonderful guide and I learned a few new facts about these amazing creatures. I now know what to look for to spot a platypus in the wild.
