What To Expect

Customize and mod a classic Game Boy in this hands-on workshop in Akihabara, Tokyo’s iconic gaming district. Guided by passionate English-speaking staff, you’ll explore the history and craftsmanship behind Nintendo’s legendary handheld. No experience needed. Rather than building from scratch, you’ll carefully mod a pre-tested Game Boy DMG-01 — installing a backlit IPS screen, swapping buttons, and choosing your own shell. The guides are true enthusiasts, sharing stories about rare cartridges, 90s classics, and the global modding scene in a relaxed, small-group setting. After completing your build, enjoy classics like Pokémon, Zelda, Tetris, and Final Fantasy on your upgraded console. The staff were super nice and gave us plenty of customizable options for our game boys. They gave us candy, water and all the kindness and time in the world. Making my game boy and being able to play on the many games provided was an amazing experience. Much love to the staff it was a great experience that we get to bring home.
