In Ghent, calling someone a noose bearer is a compliment. A stolen masterpiece has been missing for nearly a century, and a detective is still assigned to the case. Students once seized a medieval castle because beer went up by one franc. This is not a typical European city.
This self guided audio tour takes you through 18 stops across Ghent's historic centre, from the world's most stolen painting at Saint Bavo's Cathedral to guild houses where merchants claimed first pick of every passing cargo. You'll hear the dragon legend atop the Belfry, walk through ever changing street art in Graffiti Street, and end at a cannon named after a woman fierce enough to storm Hell.
Three kilometres. Two and a half hours. Eighteen stories you won't find in a guidebook. Start anytime, pause whenever you like, and go at your own pace.

Very good audio guide; a brief historical overview before the actual city tour begins. It is well-structured, the explanations on site are very good and completely sufficient for an overview of the attraction. The culinary tips are also very interesting. The sound quality is excellent and has positive vibes that one might not necessarily expect from an artificially generated voice. Overall, an excellent tour with necessary details, without exaggeration.

We really enjoyed this walking tour of Ghent - it hit all the highlights with great information. The app was easy to order and download and to navigate once we got the hang of it. It includes photos so you know you are looking at the correct buildings. And the interactive map (shows you walking to each place) allowed us to start where we wanted and self-correct when we took a wrong turn. We really liked the flexibility to pause our tour when we wanted … we enjoyed a hot drink and waffle in the square in the morning and we stopped for a beer later in the afternoon … then continued on. You can’t do this with a “live guided tour”. We will definitely be using these tours in the next cities on our adventure.
