Arabuko-Sokoke Forest
Pick up from hotel in the morning and drive to the Arabuko Sokoke Forest. This is the largest and most intact coastal forest in East Africa, with 20% of Kenya’s bird species, 30% butterfly species and at least 24 rare and endemic bird, mammal and butterfly species. The forest has 40 recorded mammal species including African Elephant, African Buffalo, African Civet, Caracal, Syke’s Monkeys, Yellow Baboons and Lesser Galago (or bush baby). Some of Kenya’s rarest mammals are found here, including the Golden-rumped Elephant-shrew, Sokoke Bushy-tailed Mongoose and Ader’s Duiker. It is also made up of three different forest types. The dense vegetation in this forest type creates a tropical atmosphere as one walks or drives through, the real feel of being “in the woods”. Visit the look-out point and see the animals as they gather at the watering hole for their evening drink’. The day ends as your taken back to the hotel.

We visited the arabuko sokoke forest and followed a route along th fence to the swamp at 5.30pm and we excited to see over 40 elephants that came to quench their thirst, we carried our picnic and had a ball! Id be glad to organize such trips for groups since i now live in Kilifi and organizing the inaugural arabuko elephant trail run to be held in OCT 2025
