The Canopy Walkway in Nyungwe National Park is a suspended bridge 70m above the great Nyungwe forest. The guided canopy walk is 160m - 200m long and it takes about 2 hours on the suspended bridge
The canopy walk is a guided tour done by persons of 6 years and above. Though a 6-year-old can do the walk, it's advisable that adults always accompany the children. The walk is done all year round, however it's much better and easier in the dry seasons where the walkway is much drier. Dry seasons in Rwanda run from June to September and December to February.
The walk on the canopy walk offers its walkers great views of the great East African region, Lake Kivu, the different sections of the Nyungwe forest as they spot the different animals, birds, insects, reptiles, and amphibians that live in the forest.

The schedule of the canopy walk is 8am, 10am, 1pm and 3pm. The walk starts from the Uwinka Reception Centre; this is also the head office for Nyungwe National Park. At Uwinka Reception centre visitors are briefed about the walk and assigned a walking guide; this is where you also purchase things like walking sticks, raincoats, etc if you don't have them already because you need them folthe walk. After the session at the Uwinka Reception centre, you then move with a guide to the lgishigishigi trail then 160 m suspended bridge that is adjourned on huge strong trees on top of the ancient biodiverse Nyungwe forest.

Rwanda tea plantation: Rwanda’s perfect soils and climates are responsible for creating Tea one of the world’s popular drinks. Tea Plantations can be seen covering the rolling hills of the Country, to create an excruciating contrast with the Blue skies, the clean dirt roads and sunshine. Trips to visit the tea plantations can be organized and they are appropriate for small, groups, families and also children. On the trips, you learn how tea is planted, maintained, harvested and processed to find its way on your table back home. Rwanda has a great number of tea plantations making Tea Rwanda’s largest export. Thus giving you a variety of plantation options to visist. However the ones that are commonly visited are closer to Nyungwe National park that is in Gisakura and Gisovu.
The Ethnographic Museum
King's Palace A reconstruction of the traditional royal residence, the King’s Palace is a beautifully-crafted thatched dwelling shaped like a beehive. In olden times, Nyanza was the heart of Rwanda. According to oral tradition, it was the site of battles and power struggles. For a long time, the monarchy was mobile, moving the court between various locations. When it eventually settled in one place, Nyanza was the obvious choice. The capital of the kingdom had as many as 2,000 inhabitants, and huts built with the same methods as seen here. At the back live a few long-horned Inyambo cattle, descended from the king’s herd, whose keepers carefully tend and sing to them, keeping alive a unique tradition. The elegant cows, derived from the wider Ankole breed, played an important role during ceremonies in honour of the king. They were decorated with rich jewellery, and were taught to listen to a trainer’s songs and follow his movements in a stately parade.

We highly recommend this tour! We were picked up promptly at 5am for a four hour ride from Kigali to the national park. Jonathan, our driver, was responsive and accommodating to any request and always with a smile, shared information about Rwanda’s culture and answered our plethora of questions. He made short stops along the way so we could take pictures of monkeys and baboons we saw next to the road and made sure all our needs were addressed. The park experience was fantastic. The guides were knowledgeable, excited to share this gorgeous environment with us and made sure we were comfortable at all times. The food at the park was very good. It made for a fun and interesting day. We are happy we chose this tour. Thank you again Jonathan!

We spent an exciting and meaningful day at Nyungwe National Park, canopy walk plus Gisakura tea plantation. We were lucky enough to see three different kinds of monkeys but the canopy walk in itself worth doing. Beautiful rain forest. The road from Kigali and back is looooong but I feel I saw so much on the way too that I would do it again. Silverbird Agency was very easy to communicate with, they were quick to answer and flexible with any possible vis major (l almost missed connections that would have effected the tour). Lunch at the national park was lovely, try the spice tea! Our guide Jonathan was comfortable to be around with, was happily answering questions, had great resources for the trip. Also on a long drive on quite difficult roads (lots of ups and downs and curves and people walking by the road, sometimes heavy traffic) it was very important that Jonathan was a patient and smooth driver, I felt safe on the road.

These guys couldn't have been more professional. They turn up on time, get you to your destination on time and get you home on time and work with you on your budget, as simple as that. On top of the this, the service is personable and I will surely be contacting them when I return to Kigali. They are second to none.
