Previously known as Gisenyi – is a large town on the northern edge of Lake Kivu, an hour’s drive from Volcanoes National Park and the perfect place to relax after gorilla guardians and culture village. Once a colonial beach resort of note, Rubavu’s waterfront is lined with fading old mansions, hotels and trendy bars on the lakeshore, ideal for sundowner cocktails.

5.00The Gorilla Guardians Village was an amazing experience. Jonathan was an excellent host, thoroughly guiding us, so at the end of the day we got a glimpse of this fantastic country with welcoming people and such a clean environment. The views were great. The boat trip was nice. Well done!

4.00This was an amazing view if the REAL Rwandan countryside. Can't believe how clean everything was and the pride the citizens take in their land. Johnathan was a great driver! The lake was awesome, in spite of the thunderstorm. All in all, a wonderful day. Fully recommended.

5.00This trip included a full day of activities from Kigali all the way to Lake Kivu. The tour guide Jonathan was conversational and friendly, and he provided helpful and interesting information about Rwanda's landscapes, culture, and history. Throughout the day, we stopped by a waterfall, drove through the Volcano National Park, stopped by the Gorilla Guardian Village (one of my favorite parts of the day), passed by a tea plantation, enjoyed beautiful views of the volcanos and hills of Northwest Rwanda, and enjoyed a nice lunch, Hotsprings experience, and sunset boat ride on Lake Kivu. I would highly recommend Silverbird Tours Agency and Jonathan!

5.00Once you arrive at Kivu Lake, your breath will be taken by how massive and beautiful the lake and views are. We even got a chance to sit in the hot spring! We ended our day at El Classico Beach Restaurant, to say the food was delicious is an understatement. Our guide was great! Fiacre was knowledgeable and safe. Communication with Silver Bird Tours was easy, highly recommend the company and guide.

5.00Jonathan was a great guide! Very friendly and caring. The village has some interesting portions, but was a little gimmicky for my taste. The TripAdvisor/Viator listing needs to be updated, because you do not visit the hot springs or a tea plantation. Lake Kivu, however was stunning and the boat ride was very serene. Also, it should be noted just the drive from Kigali to the lake is quite beautiful - driving through the countryside you get to see many different facets of Rwanda.

5.00Silverbird Tours helped me plan a daytrip from Kigali to Lake Kivu and then delivering me at the airport at the end. The company is wonderful to work with - thry reply fast by e-mail, give advice and are totally reliable. The driver, Justin, was great at making conversation, explaining and giving good inside information about the country. In this trip I saw coffee and tea plantations, views of landscape and scenery, traditional dancing, tasted local food and experienced Lake Kivu. The whole daytrip gave me so much impressions and it was a fantastic way to see Rwanda.

5.00The whole experience was enlightening. I love the Gorrilla Guardians Village tour the most - getting to learn about their traditional customers and partaking in some of them. Jonathan was an amazing driver and guide. He is a great conversationalist and his passion for Rwanda was very infectious.
