What To Expect

Designed for anyone who wants to give surfing a try, we promise to give you the best surf experience with an authentic taste of surfing, useful safety information about waves and the beach, and a smile that you won’t be able to wipe off for hours! Hippy Surfcamp offers you 7 day accommodation inclusive delicious breakfast and lunch. You will learn 10 hours in total during your stay. Apart of it, you will have free access to all surf equipments for your use so you can practice more what you have learned during the day. We also arrange a movie night as well as a BBQ night with fresh sea foods with like minded people around the world. During these lessons you can expect to be introduced to understanding the ocean and how it works, water safety, correct board handling, surf etiquette, correct paddling technique and also the fundamentals of good surfing. All our coaches have years of ocean knowledge under their belts and they are there to answer any questions you might have. Our coaching staff are all Level 1 qualified Surf Instructors with ISA, hold current Surf Rescue Certificates and have Working With Children Checks, so you are the best hands possible.

A big thank you goes to Romy, Mia, and the entire crew, from the surf instructors to the kitchen staff, and of course the three dogs !!! It was the perfect end to my four-week trip to Sri Lanka! The best surfing lessons I had on the island, especially as a beginner, the one-on-one sessions with amazing feedback and attention to detail. After surfing, there was a delicious breakfast (doesn't matter what you will choose), all lovingly handmade. Yoga in the afternoon with Mara rounded off the day! Also I am an absolute Yoga Beginner and it was a perfect start. I stayed at the dorm in the wooden house and I was super clean, you can find small lockers size of a notebook and 2 fans. I enjoyed the shower at the outdoor bathroom. Mia and Romy also organize many other activities for their guests, such as massages, cooking with a local family, trips to the nearby waterfall, and much more. In addition, many activities are also offered for people who are not staying here, such as a weekly sound bath, paint your own Sri Lankan mask, and the daily yoga lesson is also open to everyone. Mia and Romy have created a gem here, with a great concept, amazing crew, and definitely the most relaxed place in Hikka. Don't miss it!

Me and 2 friends stayed 4 days in the camp and had a great time! Mia and Romy are super welcoming and the camp is comfortable and cozy! It really gives a vibe a community and makes you feel like already there for weeks. The surf classes are very good as customized for you and really a 1-1 experience. Romy also helped with organizing other activities in the town for us such as temple/musuem tour, massages, local dinner sound healing. Another plus is the tasty breakfast options. Hope I can join another time!

The Hippy Surf Camp in Hikkaduwa is an absolute gem and what truly sets it apart is the exceptional kindness of its hosts, Romy and Mia. Their genuine warmth and care create an inviting atmosphere that instantly feels like home. Every moment at this camp is infused with their genuine hospitality. It's not just a place to stay; it's an experience of heartfelt connection and unforgettable memories. The instructors are super friendly and encouraging. I recommend this heaven place to people who like to "eat, surf and chill" in a cosy and relaxing accommodation. The price is more than OK and they even arrange us a tour for the week after. Unforgettable experience ! ( PS: breakfasts are delicious :) )

Loved our experience at Hippie Surf School. Mia and his team are a very patient lot. Wave aftter wave, they took the time to get our technique correct. Even arranged for us to travel to a beginner friendly beach for practice at no additional cost. Jonty is an exceptional trainer. Definitely worth going with them if you're around and want to learn swimming.
