Saqqara (Sakkara) Pyramids

"The most conspicuous landmark of Saqqara is the Step Pyramid, the tomb of the third Dynasty ruler Djoser or Zoser, built by Imhotep and thought to be the earliest major stone structure erected in Egypt. The form of the pyramid can be explained as a development of the large mastabas (mud-brick tombs) of the First and Second Dynasties; the six steps, each smaller than the one below, having been produced by the addition to the original mastaba of successive new layers of masonry, accompanied by the enlargement of the lower stages. The Step Pyramid stands 60 meters high and is built of locally quarried clay sandstone of poor quality. You can no longer enter the pyramid due to safety issues. The chambers and passages in the interior of the pyramid served partly for the burial of close relatives of the King (in particular those of his sons who died in childhood) and partly for storing grave-goods for the use of the dead"

A ticket will allow you visiting 3 of the 63 tombs on site, except Tutankhamen’s tomb. The tombs have suffered greatly from treasure hunters, floods in the past and in recent years, from mass tourism: carbon dioxide, friction and humidity taking photos with flash inside the tombs produced by the average of 2.8g of sweat left by each visitor have affected the reliefs and the pigments of the wall paintings. you will cross the Nile by motorboat to reach the island, Egypt's ancient center for the cult of Isis, the Temples of Philae were venerated from the Pharaonic era through the Greek, Roman, and Byzantine periods with each ruler making their own additions to the stones here. This sacred site has dazzled travelers since the first Nile cruises set off from Cairo and is one of Nubia's most important monument sites. Saved from a watery grave by UNESCO's rescue project during the building of the Aswan High Dam, the temples were transferred block by block from their original place on Philae Island to Agilika Island, 12 kilometers south of Aswan. Thanks to this, today travelers can still walk amid the columns of this ancient venerated site.

  • Incredible first international travel experience

As novice international travelers, we chose to go with a group to see the beautiful sites and experiences of Egypt. Our travel group worked with Look at Egypt Tours. Everything from pick up at airport, transportation to hotels, quality of services for buying, businesses, shopping experiences, and of course the beautiful historic tombs and temples, everything was perfect. Our tour guide, Randa, was so knowledgeable, personable and organized. She kept us on track and kept our group together through the crowds. The company transported us to the airport and assisted us in getting through customs. On our last night, I caught an intestinal infection. The company made sure I had medication for our flights to travel home. The hospitality, friendliness and efficiency of this company, tour guide and all services they organized was top notch. Highly recommend.

My daughter and I really enjoyed our trip to Egypt. Our recent trip to Egypt was very well organized by Anas. He planned our trip as per our preferences. He was very prompt and professional in responding to any minor changes we needed to make. The pickups and drop offs at the airport were very well organized and trouble-free at all locations and seamless. Mahmoud's help through the immigration was very helpful after a long travel. Our driver, Ibrahim, was very friendly, courteous and professional. We really appreciated him. The guides were good and knowledgable about the ancient history. The guide, Mohamed, was on board during our Nile River cruise and escorted us to all the sights. We really enjoyed our trip to Abu Simbel. Beautiful location on lake Nasser with a rich history. The last day itinerary was rather short if we did not add the Grand Museum at additional cost. We were very happy that we added that, as it is a GEM, must see. This was a private tour as per our specifications.

I recommend our tour with Look At Egypt. They offer well structured itineraries and have a tour manager available around the clock to help things run smoothly. They were also able to accommodate a short notice change of plans for one day which was very much appreciated. One general recommendation I would share to anyone visiting Egypt is maybe not do the pyramids on day 1 of your trip. Better to spend at least a day getting over travel and used to the pace of Cairo. This way you will be more relaxed when you visit. We have wonderful memories of our trip to Egypt and have no regrets with using Look at Egypt.

My life fully changed forever due to the incredible experience I had with LOOK AT EGYPT TOURS! There is so much rich history in this wonderful country and it’s hard to drink it all on your own. BUT with the help of this marvelous tour company I was able to digest everything in bite sizes! We had several tour guides, but there was one that stood out above all the rest! His name is MOSTAFA, and he was one of the greatest men I’ve ever met in my life! His fountain of knowledge was exceptional, and his heart for sharing the culture and history of Egypt was impressive. He was VERY attentive to every one of our needs, and was marvelous with how he delivered his wisdom. Such power and grace! HIGHLY recommend booking a guided tour with this company & ask for MOSTAFA!! You will get more than your moneys worth out of it, and most of all you will gain a true friend.

We really enjoyed our 10-day tour with Look at Egypt. It was so helpful to have someone else dealing with transportation and tickets to everything so we could just relax and enjoy the experience of Egypt. The people that met us at the airport and the drivers were all very kind and helpful, and everything went smoothly throughout our trip. We especially loved our tour guides, Moustafa in Cairo and Mohammed in Luxor/Aswan/Upper Egypt. They were very knowledgeable and fun, and they were especially great with our nine-year-old son, making sure that he was engaged and enjoying the tour as well. We learned a lot about Ancient Egypt, of course, but also about contemporary Egyptian life and culture from them. It was truly a transformative experience for us that we will cherish for years to come. We highly recommend Look at Egypt!
