After pickup from your Antigua hotel, venture northwest approximately an hour to the dusty town of Tecpán. Here, explore the Mayan ruins of Iximché, once the Kaqchiquel Maya capital and a Guatemala must-see attraction. Upon entering the ruins, you'll see four ceremonial plazas, which are surrounded by tall temple structures and two ball courts. The plazas were used for things such as housing for residents and special ceremonies, and the ball courts were used to play the Mesoamerican ballgame, a sport that dates back to 1400 BC.
Chichicastenango
Feel as if you’ve gone back in time as you walk along the town’s narrow, cobblestone streets and past its red-tiled roofs. In the central plaza, discover Chichicastenango’s most prominent attraction, the open-air market, filled with local goods like ceramic pots, wood carvings and other handmade wares, as well as fruits and vegetables. Browse the locally made goods and pick up a souvenir or two to take home! While you’re in the plaza, visit the Iglesia de Santo Tomas (Church of Santo Tomas), located on the east side of the plaza. Dating back to 1540, the church is often home to Mayan rituals. On the west side of the plaza, visit Calvary Church, a smaller version of Iglesia Santo Tomas.

This was an amazing experience for the entire family. We traveled with two boys ages 9 and 11 years old, Grandma and Grandpa and there was something for everyone to enjoy. The travel guide was very knowledgeable, friendly and went above and beyond in accommodating our needs. The guided translated everything twice both in English and Spanish for my parents. Eva the reception at Guatemala Adventures set up an amazing itinerary for us filled with adventures and some relaxing time. I will definitely be traveling to Guatemala again in the next year or so and will definitely be using Guatemala Adventures to set up my trip. Amazing experience!!!! We will be using Guatemala Adventure again!!

Pre-arranged solo trip through Guatemala. After talking to several agencies I finally selected Guatemalan Adventure. Their representative Marcia Ponce was highly responsive and flexible with regards to my own ideas. Pricing was broadly in line with other local agencies. Tour included the following highlights: Antigua, Volcan Pacaya, Chichicastenango, Lake Atitlan, Copan/Honduras, Quirigua, Rio Dulce and - a must - Tikal and Yaxha. (Note: I separately arranged a 2-day group climb of Volcan Acatenango - highly recommended) For most of the trip I had the same guide and driver: Mirko, who is a good/safe driver, a guide with comprehensive knowledge and last but not least a person with whom travelling is fun. For some tours such as Pacaya and Tikal I joined groups. Hotel selection - I opted for "standard" rather than "deluxe"- was good up to excellent, almost all hotels had good location, atmosphere (Don Rodrigo, Antigua!) and all the things a traveller needs. Arrangements were well organised and on time, there was room for spontaneous flexiblity (ie. visit of local sights which were not on the itinerary). I enjoyed this trip very much and can recommend Guatemalan Adventure.
