Follow the former Silk Road, re-named in the 19th c as the Georgian Military Highway During this private 2-day tour to Kazbegi, enjoy sightseeing in Mtskheta town and two UNESCO World Heritage sites, visit Ananuri fortress and Gergeti Holy Trinity Church, spend a night at a local hotel with fantastic views of mountains.

Pick up from the hotel in Tbilisi and departure to north Georgia.
Jvari Church
Your first stop is Mtskheta – the ancient capital of East Georgia. During excursions in Mtskheta you’ll visit UNESCO World Heritage Site Jvari monastery dated 6th c.
Svetitskhoveli Cathedral
Explore another UNESCO site of Mtskheta - Svetitskhoveli Cathedral dating back to 11th c
Ananuri Fortified Castle Ensemble
Continue your way and reach Ananuri fortress 14-17th cc. The complex consists of fortifications and residential buildings of Aragvi Dukes. The purpose of the monument was to guard the country from North. Explore the fortress and enjoy beautiful views of Jinvali reservoir.
After drive further north, over Jvari pass (2395 meters above sea level) and stop by travertine where you can taste mineral waters flowing down from the mountains. Finally, arrive in the town of Stephantsminda (formerly known as “Kazbegi”) – the center of Khevi province.

Gergeti Trinity Church
After breakfast at the hotel take a walk (approx. time 2.5 hours) to Gergeti Holy Trinity Church – an important altar of 14th century, located on the slope of Mount Kazbegi. The church facade preserves stone decorations depicting ancient religious rituals and beliefs. If you are lucky with weather, you will see Mount Kazbegi (5047 m. above sea level).
Gveleti Waterfall
Walk back to Kazbegi town. Get in your vehicle and drive to Dariali gorge, an important crossing point of the Caucasus range, which was fortified in 150 BC. Take a walk along the river to Gveleti waterfalls, easy upwards trekking (20-25 minutes) and enjoy the views of green valleys and picturesque landscapes.
Dariali
Visit Dariali Monastery nested in the river gorge of Terek (Tergi). In the evening drive back to Tbilisi. The tour ends with a drop-off at your hotel in Tbilisi.

5.00Facinating views as well as points of interest along the way, representing georgian heritage. Kazbegi itself is a very good place for hiking. We had a very friendly and knowledgable guide, Lasha.

5.00We saw so much amazing scenery and so many beautiful places, and our guide George was fantastically nice and helpful. We enjoyed our 2 days very much, even though some views were obscured by cloud.
The driver was really responsible and great, but the hotel was disgusting

2.00The driver was very responsible, serious and patient. He chatted with me all the way and let me know a different Georgia. But I don't know what the hotel is. It's very bad. I asked for a kettle for a long time and got a broken one. It was cold in the rainstorm. The hotel did not include any menu. The restaurant of a starving boss did not have dinner, and there was no way to call the front desk because there was no phone. Anyway, it was very bad. I thought it was a good private tour. The hotel was 90 lari per room.
I had a good time in Kazbegi. This is a great place and thanks to the Georgian Holiday for a good planned tour.

Most of all, our guide Mr. George Bachowas such a reliable trekking group leader and nice person as well. So we enjoyed this tour very much, not just me but the whole tour team I believe. 5.00Really nice experience. Excellent guide Tarik with gently of information and wonderful stories. I travelled with my older son of 17 years and we both got submerged into real Georgia with massive amount of geographical and historical information. If you can, ask for Tarik as guide, it is an experience on its own.

5.00Georgian Holidays was excellent in assisting us to plan a custom overnight tour that included both Kazbegi and Abdelauri Lakes. The communication was consistently prompt and helpful. On the day of the tour our guide, Bacho, arrived on time and well equipped. He did a great job accommodating our requests and was friendly, patient and knowledgeable throughout. Overall the combination of hiking, local food, and historical sites was perfect and Bacho was an excellent guide. We would definitely recommend both Georgian Holidays and Bacho wholeheartedly, and suggest in particular people try the Abdelauri Lakes for a lighter hike with still-spectacular scenery. We hope to go back again! Charles and Ali
