The Selous Game Reserve is a protected area in southern Tanzania. It covers a total area of 50,000 km² and has additional buffer zones. It was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1982 due to its wildlife diversity and undisturbed nature.
Large numbers of elephants, black rhinoceroses, cheetahs, giraffes, hippopotamuses and crocodiles live in this immense sanctuary, which measures 50,000 km2 and is relatively undisturbed by human impact. The park has a variety of vegetation zones, ranging from dense thickets to open wooded grasslands.

Pick Up from hotel in Zanzibar, transfer to Zanzibar ferry - take the first ferry from Zanzibar depart 07:00 am and pick up on arrival at the DAR ferry, and drive to the Selous (4 hrs). You will take part in an afternoon game drive in Selous.

5.00Well what an experience, can’t believe how close we got to our favourite animals. The guilds was incredible full of knowledge we learnt so much also gave us breakfast and lunch great company all day . Walking safari was great and water safari you see hippos crocodiles wonderful wildlife again guilds was. Brillant . Behind all the organisation hotel staff and fishermen’s tour this was the best trip we have ever done and would highly recommend you to use this company .

5.00We had the pleasure of being hosted by Gecko Adventure Tanzania for a magical three days in Selous. We flew directly to Selous from Zanzibar and were met by Zacharia who was our guide. His extensive knowledge of the park, its animals and beautiful locations enriched the trip very much, as he knew exactly where to take us. With him there was never a dull moment, he also made great conversation as he told his stories, some so funny that we could not help laughing. We saw numerous animals, including all the big 5 if you replace seeing the rhino with hippos, lots of zebras, giraffes, huge buffalo herds, a rare sighting of wild dogs, elands and gnus. I was struck by the size of the elephant herds in Selous. There was one herd that had over a seventy elephants!! Zacharia was quite flexible took our needs seriously. Every morning he made sure that we he understood what we wanted and did not stop until we got it. His passion and dedication made our experience special.

5.00Had a wonderful trip to Selous after holidaying in Zanzibar with Gecko Adventure Tanzania. We had a game drive where we saw elephants, lions, wild dogs, hyenas, gnus, giraffes and zebras among many other animals. The highlight of the trip was the boat safari along River Rufiji. It was so enchanting seeing elephant herds, hippos, water birds from the boat as we glided along the river. I highly recommend visiting Selous and going with a great guide like Otto from Gecko Adventure Tanzania.
