Our gorilla trekking experience with Katona Tours was unforgettable. From the moment we got in touch with Jackie, she has advised us every step of the way from which country, routes, permits to rescheduling from 2024 to 2025 due to Marburg. She replies immediately regardless of time, holidays or weekends - we couldn't have done it without her. Everything was perfectly organized — seamless airport pickup, our driver/guide - Niwamanya Daniel - who knows everyone in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest and became a friend throughout our stay - always enthusiastic and very focused on ensuring we got to do everything we wanted within the time we had in the region. He even paid quietly for us to film a local "Rolex (rolled eggs)" making and ensured our safety and comfort were not compromised while we got to experience local life with the Batwa and Lake Bunyonyi local communities. He went out of his way to ensure we had an ambitious schedule and never complained about any inconveniences or timing. Some roads we had to surmount which included needing help to remove large rocks or lifting the truck from a curb - would have scared the faint hearted. Daniel however just tackled everything in stride, with a laugh and a shrug. He ensured we had the best chance to see the gorillas up close, liaising with our hotel GM, the UWA, the porters, rangers and trackers — and we did! The encounter itself was beyond words — a once-in-a-lifetime experience surrounded by these majestic creatures in their habitat. Katona Tours took care of every detail — permits, rebooking, local coordination — so we could just immerse ourselves in the beauty of Uganda and Rwanda. Their personal touch and genuine care really made the difference. Highly recommended for anyone considering gorilla trekking — this is a company that truly delivers on experience, safety, and heart.

Wonderful experience! The hike is strenuous but worth it. Seeing gorillas in the wild is an unforgettable experience! I highly recommend this tour! You will not be disappointed. Our group of five saw a silverback and several females with their young.

Unforgettable experience made easier by our guide Chris and Jacqueline on WhatsApp. Our guide Chris was waiting for us on the landing strip. From there we drove a few hours to the Bakiga Lodge with beautiful views of the mountains. Along the drive, Chris would talk about Uganda and solve any questions we had about gorillas or our trip. Talking to him helped us get a better understanding of what to expect during the hike. He was always very friendly and polite. We saw 10-13 gorillas each day. The hikes were mild to medium in difficulty but beautiful both. Would definitely recommend working with them.

We had a 6 day tour of Uganda with Chris from Katona! The trip was amazing! We travelled with our two daughters and our guide was patient and thoughtful! He was extremely knowledgeable regarding gorillas and chimpanzees. He had extensive experience and was always willing to share! I am already planning our next trip! We saw both gorillas and chimpanzees and both were amazing! A dream come true!

Arrived in Entebbe to be greeted by our guide Chris ( Gorilla Boy). Spent the night in a beautiful bed and breakfast Via Via. The following day we flew to Murchison Falls with Chris. Accommodations were beautiful. The following day we experienced a great game drive in which we saw Lion, Leopard, Elephants and numerous other animals. This was my fourth trip to Africa. Second to East Africa. The following day Murchison Falls. Oh my! AMAZING! Make sure you stay for at least an hour. A natural wonder. Off to Biwindi for some Gorilla trekking. This was my second experience in Uganda. It’s a hour and a half drive up the mountain for accommodations. Beautiful scenery. Uganda is incredibly clean and friendly people. Chris was amazing. His knowledge of the mountains and areas made for an excellent experience. The trip was incredible, flawless and full of adventure that my wife Carolyn and I will never forget. Memories for a lifetime. Thank you Chris, we will definitely be back. Your friends, Roger and Carolyn Froehlich

We just completed our tour starting in Rwanda, visiting Genocide Memorial before being transferred to Uganda to visit the gorilla's in Bwindi. We really wanted to see both attractions, but with the permits being cheaper in Uganda it ended up more cost effective for us. Our guide Kenneth was great, waited for us outside the airport and taught us so much about Rwanda and Uganda along the way. We stopped at a local place Kenneth knew for lunch and it was delicious! Kenneth was previously a gorilla ranger so he knew about the different groups and was an asset to have. Seeing the scenery along the way was fantastic. Jackie was also very helpful during the booking progress and made sure everything ran smoothly. She even organised us a free upgrade, thank you Jackie that was brilliant! The border crossing does take a considerable amount of time and this was the only downfall, but the tour still outweighed this, giving us a great chance to see both countries. Katona was fantastic and I would book with them again.

Don't get me wrong, this was an amazing experience. I can't really give more than 3/5 because this is advertised falsely: it's not a "two day gorilla trek", it's one day of transportation and one day of trekking. You get ONE HOUR with the gorillas. I guess I didn't read the description well enough, but the headline is still false in my opinion. Be sure to bring proper gear because it rains a lot and the forest is very thick (I feel like I wasn't really briefed on this, but I enjoyed the challenge. Others might not.) In any case, my guide Chris the gorilla boy 🦍was great; such a humble, friendly and knowledgeable person. The communication from Katona was swift. The lodge where I stayed was very cool with a fireplace, good food and friendly staff.
