2 days Gorilla trekking safari in Rwanda is the ultimate adventure experience in Rwanda. Many people plan for years to be able to watch the mountain gorillas in their natural habitats. Rwanda’s volcanoes national park is among the four parks where mountain gorillas are currently inhabiting.

This gorilla safari will bring you close to these massive but gentle animals that live in a communal family led by the dominant silver back. In some gorilla groups you will find more than one silver back in which case it implies the other silver-backs had to submit to his leadership or breakaway and start their own families.

Volcanoes national park is about 2 hours drive from Kigali. As you travel to the home of mountain gorillas in the Virunga volcanoes, enjoy the scenery of ‘the thousand hills’. Gorilla trekking will take you in the deep jungles as you search for these massive animals.

This tour starts with an early morning pickup by our company representative from either a hotel / Kigali International Airport for a transfer to Volcanoes National Park, Musanze province. On your way, engage in a Kigali City Tour taking you through Gisozi Genocide Memorial Site before proceeding with your drive to the park. On arrival, proceed to your lodge check in; dine and rest for overnight at The Garden Place(Budget), Le Bambou Gorilla Lodge/ Davinci Gorilla Lodge(Midrange) and Mountain Gorilla View Lodge/ Five Volcanoes Gorilla Lodge(Luxury)

The Kigali Genocide Memorial commemorates the 1994 Rwandan genocide. The remains of over 250,000 people are interred there. There is a visitor centre for students and those wishing to understand the events leading up to the genocide of 1994.

What is gorilla trekking? The experience is all about getting up close with the endangered mountain gorillas in their natural habitats. Gorilla trekking entails all day search and interaction for mountain gorillas. The encounter is reviewed as magical and the most wonderful wildlife experience in the world. • What are the trekking rues and regulations? At the start of each gorilla trekking day, travelers are introduced to gorilla trekking rules and regulations to ensure safety of the endangered gorillas and travelers in the jungle. The do’s and don’ts of gorilla trekking include 1. Keep a distance of seven meters away from Gorilla Trekking Rules and regulations 2. Do not trek gorillas when sick 3. Do not throw rubbish in the jungle 4. Keep within your groups 5. Speak at low tone 6. Do not touch the gorillas 7. Avoid direct eye contact with gorillas’ 8. Avoid flash light cameras

Seeing gorillas was the thing I have been waiting for all my life. This tour allowed me to do it. Chris was a fantastic driver always there for any question or need. All the gorilla process, permit-payment etc was done swiftly with the help of the company. On other hand the day tour of Kigali was an excellent one. Chris took me all over the city.

The gorilla safari tour was one of my favourite this year. I enjoyed going on a hike and seeing different wild life on the way the to the gorillas. I would also recommend this tour to anyone willing to go on a new adventure since this is only offered in a few places on earth. Thanks to African Travellers for offering this service.

I thoroughly enjoyed the two-day tour, gorilla trekking and Kigali city tour, and it became a good memory. The flight arrived in Kigali at 8am, and the airport pick-up was smooth without any delay, and we went on the Kigali city tour. After that, we moved to Musanze and stayed there for one night, and the next morning we went on gorilla trekking. This was also smooth. It seems that you can choose the level of trekking from short to long, but I was assigned to the longest one, and although the trekking was long, which was 2 hours each way, I was very satisfied to see the largest gorilla family up close. One silverback was walking towards me, and because there was not enough width to avoid it, we ended up passing each other right beside each other, and the silverback touched me at that time, which became a very good memory. I recommend it.

Trekking to see the mountain gorillas in Rwanda had been on my bucket list for years, JP and his team at African Travellers made it happen giving me a once in a lifetime opportunity. The two day package includes airport transfers, a city tour and your day at Volcanoes Park. JP will walk you through all the steps for the permit (not included) get you set up in a group of folks with similar backgrounds, helps you with the instructions from the guides and porters and is there to meet you on your return. You know you are good hands. Once you locate your gorilla family you get one hour to observe them before heading back. Don't forget to ask how you should dress, right down to hat and boots. You will need a COVID test and JP will set that up for you. Its free at the airport. The city tour emphasizes the 1994 Rwandan genocide which when fully understood makes you even more in awe of how far this country has come since then during what they call reconciliation. If you have additional time in Rwanda, JP can set you up with other game parks or cultural tours to your liking. There's lots of competition on the road to the gorillas, you can do no wrong in selecting Africa Travellers as your guide to some of the most fascinating creatures in the world, in one of the most beautiful countries in Africa.
