What To Expect
Mont Saint-Michel
From the Information Centre, you will go to the Mont by free shuttle or on foot, depending on your choice. Your guided and told tour will last two hours through the cobbled streets of the village to the foot of the abbey. You will then know all the secrets of this unique site: the tides, the dam, the bay ecosystem, the entire history of the Mount, from its construction to today, its legends with an experienced guide who will make you love this place and will amuse you with funny and exciting anecdotes. At the end of your tour, the guide will give you the entrance ticket to the abbey, a place that will enhance your experience at the Mount, and avoid queuing at the ticket office.

3.00The tour guide was very good and knowledgeable. Taking a tour really enhances the visit since the town, while quaint, is mainly restaurants and souvenir shops. I rated this down because I purchased an English tour and we got a bilingual one, which slowed it down dramatically. I would not have done it if I knew we’d have to sit through French descriptions too. The vendor refused a partial refund.

It was also really wonderful to go in early November during the down season because there was not many people and it was very uncrowded. Loved this tour!

3.00Since we had already explored the Abbey for FREE on the previous Sunday, we gave away those tickets to another couple. The 2 hour guided tour was actually a disappointment because all we did was go up, and down so many sets of stairways that I lost count. There seemed to be no rhyme or reason, no cohesiveness to all of these stairways. I wanted to see the area of the crypts, which were built first, and which were the foundation that the Abbey was built upon. In order to understand the history of the Abbey, that needed to be explained first. I felt that was not done, and since I needed my walking sticks in order to maneuver all of those steps, which took us to general places that we had already been, I was not impressed. Our group was fairly small, which was good, and the admission fee was not exorbitant, so that was good also. Out of all of that, there were only 3 places of interest to me that explained historical events, so that is why I have given a 3 out of 5.
