This is an easy 2-hour hike near Vienna to two ruins of castles in "Helenental" that have been popular since the "Biedermeier" era. Your local guide leads you on a walk through picturesque forest paths and rocky slopes while always having the ruins of Rauheneck and Rauhenstein before your eyes. There is a maximum of 4 participants for this tour.

The use of mountain boots is strongly recommended

In winter time sometimes additional equipment (snow chains, snowshoes) is needed. We will inform you accordingly!

You have to be free from vertigo and safe over steep terrain (sure footedness)

Due to uneven surfaces, this tour is not possible for those with walking disabilities or using a wheelchair

What To Expect

Baden near Vienna is not Middle-earth, but there are still two towers to admire. Once two castles on the left and right of the Schwechat river secured the entrance to the Helenental valley. Above all, two towers visible from afar still bear witness to this and are the destination of our excursion. We walk on picturesque forest paths and rocky paths, always the ruins Rauheneck and Rauhenstein in mind. Both towers offer us a beautiful view over the spa town of Baden and the valley surrounding the Schwechat. A special nature experience will finally convey us to the famous Kings cave.

My family of 3 went on the day hike with Michael. He is very experienced and knows the area well. We are not super experienced hikers, but Michael went at our pace. At no point did Michael show that he was put out because we did not hike at his level. He sent us an email as soon as we booked the hike telling us what to expect and what to bring. We listened and Michael was spot on. The day before the hike he sent another email telling us what the weather was going to be and how we should be prepared. I strongly recommend booking this hike. I do recommend a little hiking experience because the trail is a little steep at times. I cannot say enough how wonderful Michael was. I would book another hike with him tomorrow if I could.

Our family had a great time on this hike. It was a nice change of pace from Vienna and we really enjoyed going through the castles. Even though we had a little bit of rain at the beginning of the trip the views were great and the ruins were lovely. Michael was great about pacing the trip so that we could all keep up and he was patient with our minimal hiking experience. He also took lots of pictures for us which he sent to us after we got home. They were great! He was very prompt and texted us about the meeting point and exactly what type of car we were looking for at the train station. Great experience!
