• Francisco Brenes was a fantastic tour guide for our private Mistico Hanging Bridges Naturalist Walk

  Francisco Brenes is a fantastic tour guide. At the beginning, he asked some questions to get an idea of our level of familiarity with nature and the ecology of the setting. I found the tour to be very informative (he seemed to talk with us, at our level, during the entire tour) as well as personal. We felt a very strong personal connection to him and it was very evident that he had a similar one with many of the park employees and tour guides we encountered at the beginning of the tour. Once on the concrete paved trail, we did not see many other people. There were lots of pictures taken -- many of plants and animals that we would have otherwise missed and lots of information and stories shared about what we encountered. I should mention that it was drizzling or raining throughout the hike. There were a decent number of smaller animals encountered (insects, reptiles, and birds) and a great number of plants discussed. This experience was a clear example of how an unbelievably good experience is possible, with the right guide, when less than "picture perfect" conditions are present. To be honest, I have difficulty imagining a better experience than we had. The guide and the setting provided experiences that were a lot more memorable thatn some of the other places we visited. I do highly recommend him as a tour guide. As far as Mistico Hanging Bridges is concerned, I was hesitant to book the tour when I was planning the trip because we already had tours lined up for all of the major parks in Monteverde. As I did my pre-travel research, I became persuaded to add Mistico by many of the reviews I read. I am very grateful that Mistico was added to our vacation. It is a very special, less crowded place with a lot to experience and appreciate. Now that I have returned home, the Mistico experience is one that I have remembered and thought about a lot. I am sure that many others have had a similar experience.

  At the beginning we were not sure about getting this tour but definitely we don't regret it, the views of the place are so beautiful!!! (Arenal volcano and the lake) we saw many animals, a sloth, coatis, a couple of snakes, monkeys... And having a guide just for us was a plus! He even helped us to take photos and also showed some animals that without him we would've missed, definitely something you have to do when visiting Costa Rica!
