Overview

Glacier Country Helicopters is a local, family owned and operated company based in Franz Josef, on the West Coast of New Zealand. Husband and wife team Gus and Poppy started the company in January 2014 and you'll generally find one of them out flying most days.

On our Glacier Explorer flight you'll fly over the Franz Josef Glacier and then into the Southern Alps to enjoy the included 10 minute snow landing for photos. Total experience time approx. 25 minutes.

Please allow an extra 45minutes on top of your flight time to allow for checking in, transport to helicopter, loading, unloading and to return to our office.

Please let us know if you have limited mobility e.g. injury, arthritis or recent surgery? There are two high ladder style steps into the helicopter. This information could effect what helicopter we fly you in.

Our helicopter seats are 40cm wide. If you would like extra space or are wider than this we highly recommend booking a comfort seat which guarantees an empty seat next to you.

The whole experience was totally awesome. Both the driver of the shuttle to the helipad & Mike, our pilot, were very knowledgable about the Franz Josef area & glacier. The views were spectacular and so was the weather. We definitely recommend this experience. Thank you to the Glacier Country Helicopters Ltd.

Dion, was friendly and explained procedures clearly. View of valleys/glaciers impressive. Snow landing amazing. Appreciated staff reaching out to reschedule the day before as our rescheduled flight ended up being the final run of the day.

First time riding a helicopter. The ride was very enjoyable. Up on the glacier u will really admire the nature. The pilot is professional. All in all very recommended

I tried not to get too excited, in case it didn’t live up to my extreme excitement…. It wouldn’t have mattered - it was SO MUCH BETTER!! I have wanted to take a helicopter ride for years, but so pleased I didn’t until now. This location was worth the wait. The pilot and team were awesome! Everything together, made this the absolute highlight of our trip. So grateful.
