  • 3 Magic Days in Southern Tunisia

I was hesitating between a 2 or 3 day trip to the desert, and I am delighted to have chosen the 3 day package: what an unforgettable experience! I left with my two teenagers and Ali, who kindly guided us to immerse ourselves in the magic of Tunisian sand, at our own pace. Each day offered its share of unexpected details and unique moments added to the initial program: a night walk in the dunes to admire an incredible starry sky, feel the still warm sand under our feet, discover in the morning the traces of animals around our tent, or enjoy Tunisian music in Ali’s car (true soundtrack of spectacular landscapes: Star Wars, canyon Midas…). Not to mention sweet dates at will! We watched for the best sunset spot, crossed wild camels, crossed salt deserts with fascinating mirages and experienced timeless encounters. Thank you Ali, Camel, Fathi and the whole camp team for listening, smiling and hospitality. Already want to come back... this time for an even longer crossing on a camel, and why not Algeria. Inch'Allah!

When booking this trip I wasn’t sure what to expect, since there weren’t many reviews. But this 3 day Sahara experience is 1000% worth booking! We had very good communication before the trip started with Ali. We had the best guide/driver Mr. Mongi! We felt very well taken care of and it was a very relaxed trip even though it’s a very full itinerary. The entire trip is private. For the night in the Sahara you might be sharing the camp with other people, but it was a very authentic experience. Keep in mind that there is no running water at the camp, so bringing wet tissues and sanitiser is advisable. The camp has drinking water, food and a big tent with beds and blankets. The food during the trip is amazing and you can choose lunch yourself. Would recommend this to anyone visiting Tunisia with a few days to discover the country in a hassle free way!

Wow- what an adventure! We were unlucky to have a bad start to the experience with a tour guide who was ill and seemed confused about the plan and we spent all day on the road, missing some of the activities that had been planned (but which we were not aware of) which resulted in a stressed driver and we wondered what we had let ourselves in for and towards the end of the first day were considering boycotting the whole trip and making plans ourself. BUT I was able to speak to Ali on the guide’s mobile phone and as soon as Ali realised there were issues, he pulled out every stop to get our trip back on track. We sadly didn’t get into the desert for New Year’s Eve as expected but Ali booked us into a local hotel on the edge of the desert and used his phenomenal network to get us hosted like VIPs for traditional dinner and entertainment . Ali worked through the night to get a vehicule and driver in the right place to meet us in the morning and we had a most excellent guide and did activities in the desert that were way better then expected- to the point they feel like a dream or something from a film- sunrise in the desert, getting right into Berber villages with local guides and an expert, high adrenaline off road 4x4 experience in the dunes were highlights amongst some other brilliant activities. We had a bit more of a tricky time when we returned to our guide for lunch and so I spoke to Ali and he rearranged his plans to personally meet us and get our trip back on track, getting us to the camp in the desert for the night of 1st January. The camp was in a quintessentially beautiful part of the desert, accessed by a 40 minute 4x4 drive, we were hosted by to two beautiful people, local berbers who work for Ali who gave us as a family perhaps the best night and most incredible memories of our lives (and we’ve done some cool stuff to compare it to!)- it included a delicious homemade traditional meal, fire pit, singing and dancing- all just of our family-any grief or stress leading up to this point was more then worth it- camping with Caravanne De Sahara is an incredible experience and we are now looking at whether we could come back to do this with all our extended family- this is proper bucket list stuff. With ongoing concerns about the guide, at a time of high demand for tours/ tour guides Ali very decently dealt with the issue for all concerned and made himself available to be our personal guide for all of our final day, day 3- escorting us almost all the way back to Hammamet (almost 8 hours- knowing he would have to do the return journey once he had finished with us). Ali is an exceptionally decent, knowledgable, intelligent man and a long journey with him was a total privilege. Despite our serious concerns on day one, it is a testiment to Ali that he could more then overcome the unfortunate start and all three generations feel that is has been an absolutely incredible trip. If you want the real, honest, local experience this is the little independent company to go with. Due to its very personal approach, small scale and authenticity, be aware there is no back office function, Ali is the host, the head of operations and the machine behind all that happens. Things to know if booking with this company - Ali is an authentic and awesome person who can be absolutely trusted and depended on even if some parts feel imperfect - Ali is well known across Tunisia and due to the decent way he treats people has a network of friends every where who can help get his guests experience the best of the best - there are many moving parts to this trip due to the way Ali engages with so many different people (local experts) to put the trip together over hundreds of kms- if some bits don’t click together perfectly, be confident Ali will care about it and will come good - because this experience is so authentic and genuinely Tunisian, be prepared for some local cultural things that just might not feel as smooth as a big scale corporate approach- go with it, it’s worth it! - before booking through trip advisor contact Ali direct (you can find company on FB) to discuss details/ negotiate etc - before starting travel, get Ali’s mobile number- although your primary contact should be your guide- if you have any issues before you meet up with him, he will genuinely care about this - if starting in Hammamet, it’s a really long drive, get assurance from Ali that you have a good tour guide booked as this makes all the difference- and know that it’s worth it - try to allow a couple of days in Hammemet at the end of the trip, to relax and enjoy Tunisia and reflect on all you experienced in the Sahara with this amazing company before having to travel home to reality - most guests seem to have had seemless experiences (although we had the camp to ourselves, we intersected with a number of them on route) although ours was a really unlucky start, Ali really cared and pulled out all the stops to compensate for this in every way he could. We would 100% book to go with Ali and team again in future and are really grateful for the memories we leave with (even the dreadful moments on day one have become fond family memories with hindsight!) but we have had a proper adventure and experienced so much more of the desert then expected and once back on track, we loved every minute of it.

  • Looks like scam to me

Looks scam to me. I contacted this agency for a trip in October for a tour in December. 1 week before the trip, when confirming, Ali asks for a deposit to 'buy a car'. I told him this is concerning that he hasn't got a car, to which he replies that he is buying new one. Naturally, I'm concerned and find the behaviour odd. Ali then 'withdraws' his offer and cancels. Screenshot attached. Unreliable. Very happy I didn't put my family through an ordeal with him.

  • A tour that can never be reduced to words or photos! Much more than a trip, an explosion of feelings

Start my assessment for the professionalism and attention demonstrated by the company owner, Mr. ALI. Since the start of the tour negotiations (still in Brazil), going through constant accompaniment during the 3 days of the trip (Ali constantly called for the driver who accompanied me (sr. FATIH) to know if everything was okay), until the end of my tour (when I was left at the door of the hotel where I was staying), Mr. Ali is Mr. FATIH were very professional and attentive with all the programming and travel details. I need to highlight the wonderful person who is Mr. FATIH ("my friend"), always polite, attentive, courteous, familiar with the places we pass and discreet. I had the honour to immerse myself in the culture, gastronomy, religion and local customs, favoured by this fantastic person who is Mr. FATIH. Much more than a vacation trip, I had a deep life experience, I met simple people, hardworking, professional, honest, faithful, friends... I carry for my whole life, not only the record of the beautiful places I went through, but the richness of the moments I lived with these wonderful, simple and authentic people. You will always be welcome to Brazil and my home!!!

It was our first experience and certainly my boyfriend and I will never forget the beautiful and complete itinerary that took us from north to south of Tunisia under the careful and expert Guide of Ali, whom we still want to thank for his extreme availability and sympathy: acting as both Guide and driver he told us many interesting aspects about Tunisian culture and traditions, as well as their evolution to date. The thing we liked the most was spending a night in the desert where looking at the sky you could admire millions of stars and the milky way while enjoying a typical dinner prepared by Ali and Shahir (mythical desert chef😁) based on meat and vegetable stew cooked in gargoulette and mint tea. In general all the excursions and visits were unforgettable and organized to perfection (I still have in my mind the image of the Chebka oasis at sunset) Thanks again to Ali for the 3 days spent together and, when Lorenzo prepares the gargoulette, we will send you as promised a photo of the final result! Our tour guides made our trip to Tunisia an unforgettable experience. We got to see so many cities all over Tunisia in the 3 days we were with them. Every city was unique in their own way. Every part was beautiful and enriched in culture. Staying the night in the Sahara desert is a must. It was an experience like no other. I would do this same tour all over again! Thank you for making the best itinerary and making sure everything was seamless.
