Upon briefing, you’ll commence the trek with a guide in the forest in pursuit of the Mountain Gorillas. You will trek through the forest, slashing at the undergrowth, parting thick creepers, to track gorillas. The time taken to track the Gorillas is unpredictable as it depends on their movements, where they find food and shelter. However, it can take three quarters of the day and 90% chances of viewing them.

Golden monkeys are known to have unique characters and are a rare species that are endangered at the moment and they are currently found in the Virunga Mountains in Rwanda. They are easily recognized due to the yellow patches that can be seen all over their bodies. The Golden monkeys are also known as ‘the Old world monkey’ and the only way to separate these primates from others is by their noses. There is a unique character about the golden monkeys and that is most of the monkeys have their nostrils pointing to the sides but if you look closely at the golden monkeys, their nostrils face upwards.

Amazing! Mount Gahinga Lodge is perfect! Our driver Fred was so friendly and fun and had a wealth of knowledge to share as we made our way to and from the airport and on our final day Kigali city tour. And then on arrival at the lodge, the service from Penny and her team was just first class: little touches like drinks and snacks on our return from the treks; free massages; and personal escort back to our lodge each night. The individual cabins were spacious and clean and our personal butler Elizabeth was so helpful and on hand, it seemed, day and night. Little touches like hiking boots whisked away to be cleaned ready for the next activity, fires being lit in the evening and a turn down service all added to the exceptional service to ensure we had a positive experience. The grounds are just wonderful and well set out and the communal area for dining was cosy and welcoming. The food was just superb and they offered a varied and wide range of options even arranging a special bbq'd dinner one evening for all the residents to celebrate partner's birthday - they picked up the date from our registration details! The gorilla and monkey trekking activities were well organised and were the highlight of our trip but the luxury of staying at Mount Gahinga Lodge made this holiday an unforgettable experience. Thank you to everyone!

Last month, we had the incredible opportunity to spend four days in Rwanda, exploring its stunning wildlife with Peter from Silver Bird as our guide. From the moment we arrived, we were warmly welcomed. Peter guided us through each visit, sticking to the planned schedule with precision and without any hiccups. We visited the Kigali Genocide Memorial and then traveled north to seek out the majestic mountain gorillas and the enchanting golden monkeys. Throughout the journey, Peter was exceptionally accommodating, fulfilling some of our special requests and even adding a few extra stops. Our experience exceeded our expectations, and we wholeheartedly recommend Silver Bird for planning your adventure.
