Mtskheta - Tbilisi

Jvari Church

The first starting point of our remarkable tour will be Jvari Church, translated as the "Monastery of the Cross". Jvari monastery stands on the rocky mountaintop at the confluence of the Mtkvari and the Aragvi rivers, overlooking the town of Mtskheta, which was formerly the capital of the Kingdom of Iberia. Jvari Monastery is a sixth-century Georgian Orthodox monastery near Mtskheta. Along with other historic structures of Mtskheta, it is listed as a World Heritage site by UNESCO. The present building, or “Great Church of Jvari”, is generally held to have been built between 586-604.

Arrive In Svetitskhoveli in Mtskheta. Due to its historical significance and several cultural monuments, it is recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. The Svetitskhoveli Cathedral (literally the Cathedral of the Living Pillar) It is currently the second-largest church building in Georgia, after the Holy Trinity Cathedral. As one poet writes about the Svetitskhoveli Cathedral when you look at it you believe God has been here. The patriarchal cathedral of Mtskheta occupies a central place among these monuments. Svetitskhoveli is the most important monument of Georgian culture, art and architecture. Known as the burial site of Christ's mantle, Svetitskhoveli has long been one of the principal Georgian Orthodox churches and is among the most venerated places of worship in the region. Svetitskhoveli was not only the site of the coronation of the Georgian kings but also served as their burial place.

Tbilisi Holy Trinity Cathedral

After visiting Mtskheta town we will go to see unforgettable places in old Tbilisi. Visit Holy Trinity Cathedral Sameba. Georgia’s main orthodox Cathedral, Sameba was constructed between 1995-2004 and presents a mixture of traditional styles of Georgian church architecture

Meidan Bazaar

Continue to Legvtakhevi (Fit ravine), visit the waterfall nearby, and take a walk towards the Sulfer bathhouse districts in Tbilisi. Some of the baths here date back to the 17th-19th cc. and are built on natural hot water springs. After that take a walk on Maidan square, Sharden street. Lots of cafes, bars and pubs, souvenir shops and art galleries are located here.

The Bridge of Peace

A pedestrian glass and steel bridge in a bow-shaped design sit over the Mtkvari (Kura) river in the Georgian capital. It was officially opened in May 2010. The bridge was brought to Georgia from Italy in 200 unassembled components.

Narikala Fortress

Continue to Narikala fortress by cable car and enjoy views of the city from the top. The fortress was first built in the 4th c. AD was known as Shuri’s Tsikhe, translated as Invidious fortress, and was subsequently established in 7th c. and 12th c. The name “Narikala” was given to the fortress by Mongols meaning “little fortress”. After that, we will see the Mother of Georgia, "Kartlis Deda" is a monument in Georgia's capital Tbilisi. The statue was erected on the top of Sololaki hill in 1958, the year Tbilisi celebrated its 1500th anniversary. After visiting this area we will go back using the cable car

Bodbe Monastery of St. Nino

The St. George’s Monastery of St. Nino, sometimes also called the Bodbe Monastery, is one of the most important religious sites in Georgia. Today, there is a nunnery where the monastery used to be, and the St. George Cathedral, part of the monastery, holds the remains of St. Nino, Equal to the Apostles, who brought Christianity to Georgia. There is also a new cathedral being built, using much of the same construction methods used to make the most famous cathedrals in Georgia centuries ago.

Sighnaghi

The Georgian town of Sighnaghi is located in the eastern part of Kakheti and is known as the City of Love. Sighnaghi was also one of Georgia’s many stops along the ancient Silk Road. Sighnaghi is just over an hour away from Tbilisi, which makes it a good escape from the busy life of the city. Many day trips and short excursions travel to Sighnaghi. The town has recently undergone significant restoration and infrastructural improvement, rendering Sighnaghi a must-see destination in Georgia. Casino gambling, high-end hotels and dining, fine wines and a stunning view of the Alazani Valley make Sighnaghi one of Georgia’s most attractive small towns.

Tunnel Winery Khareba's

What's special here is the 7.7km of wine tunnels, dug out of a hillside in the early 1960s for storing and aging wine at constant temperatures. Today the tunnels store over 25,000 bottles of the Khareba company's European and qvevri wines. Tours go into part of the tunnels (where tastings also take place) then up to the viewing tower and restaurant. It's a 4.5km drive east of Kvareli town center.

Ananuri - Gudauri - Kazbegi

Zhinvali Water Reservoir

Jinvali is an artificial water reservoir located on the river Aragvi in Georgia. The building of the hydroelectric dam formed the Zhinvali Reservoir. The dam has been built in 1986. You have probably noticed this perfect blue surface lake if traveled to Gudauri or mount Kazbegi (Gergeti church) via Georgian military road. If not, and you are still planning your trip to this area, the chances are you will make a stop at the Ananuri castle complex (which is located near Zhinvali water reservoir), but there is a small watching platform when approaching from Tbilisi - a perfect place for a group photo or as I prefer - landscape photography.

Ananuri Fortified Castle Ensemble

Ananuri fortress: a story in stone On the coast of Aragvi you will be met by the only fortress of Georgia that has reached us in its original form. Walking through the territory of the Ananuri defense complex, you will feel like a resident of the Middle Ages and learn about the glorious past of the Aragva eristavi (heads of the people). And we will definitely pay attention to the Assumption Church of the 17th century, whose facade is decorated with interesting bas-reliefs, and each element of the decor carries a hidden meaning.

Aragvi River

The White Aragvi flows from Gudauri down to the town of Pasanauri, where it is joined by the Black Aragvi the main river of Gudamakari to the northeast. Together, these two rivers continue as, simply, "the Aragvi"; from Pasanauri, the Aragvi flows south-east to the Jinvali Reservoir, where it is joined by the Pshav Aragvi before flowing south to merge with the Mtkvari River by Mtskheta, Eastern Georgia's ancient capital just north of Tbilisi.

Gudauri

Gudauri Ski Resort is the largest and highest ski resort in Georgia (elevations of 1,993m-3,276 m). 34.8km of slopes of all difficulty levels and 15 lifts. Guests can ski in winter resort Gudauri and enjoy great views from the cable car.
