Our adventure through the Mamma Mia island's historical town begins, crossing the coastal road that leads to Panagitsa Pirgos Church
(devote to Virgin Mary and located in a fortress).
We will make a short stop at the church for a break to enjoy the panoramic view of the settlement and the north Aegean. Then we will continue walking inside of the old town of Peparethos city|( that was the island's ancient name) and the Venetian Castle where the ruins are still visible, and you can notice the different phases from ancient years to Venetian domination.
After passing the castle's steps we will walk inside the traditional settlement of the island and explore the different architectural phases during the centuries.
In the end of our walk we will have the opportunity to taste the local vine Stafylos and try traditional local appetizers.

Panagitsa of Pirgos Church : The Temple of the Virgin Mary Panagitsa of the Tower: It is located NE on the imposing rock that dominates Skopelos, when viewed from the sea. It is a temple belonging to the composite tetra ionic cross type. The iconostasis of the church dates back to the 17th century Peparerhos City: The ancient name of Skopelos was Peparethos and, historically, its first inhabitants were Cretans from the ancient town of Knossos. It was named after Peparethos, brother of the Cretan leader Staphylus. Venetian Castle of Skopelos: The castle is located in the ancient village Peparithos, i.e. in the capital (Chora) of Skopelos. It was restored for first time by the Venetians in the 13th century and until today parts of its majestic walls are preserved. The castle is connected with the capital of the island and is visible from every point of it. If one goes up the landings that start from the edge of the harbor in Panagitsa of Pyrgos, will discover the fortress up close and enjoy the breathtaking view.

A very interesting tour of Skopelos town, with Regina, she was an extremely knowledgeable, engaging and enthusiastic guide. She took us through the old town relaying the history of the island and pointing out the various architectural influences on the island throughout the ages. We also visited the Badalus Micro-shipbuilding exhibition, this is not model ships this is real ships built in miniature. From Ancient Greek Trireme to HMS Bounty and everything in between it was extraordinary. We then visited a local Taverna where we sampled local dishes, all delicious, and the local wines. Out of these my personal favourites were the Greek salad and the Rose wine, although the Skopelos cheese pie does rate a mention as a close contender. All in all an excellent experience with a friendly and engaging guide and a good group of people. Highly recommended.
