A 3-Day tour of the northern regions of Oman, nothing short of spectacular. Natural beauty in abundance, delivered through stunning landscapes that left us breathless. A country with so much to offer, from its coastal regions into the desert, up the mountains, into the towns and through its lively souks. History that stretches back millenia, which you feel everywhere you go, with people who embody kindness and pride in a way of life that is a treasure to experience, even for a few short days. Oman as a tourist destination is infused with a relaxed vibe that you don't want to let go of. Our private tour guide, Ahmed, was fabulous. Very knowledgeable about the places we visited, he helped to impart a sense of the culture, the history, and the day-to-day life unfolding, at its delightfully relaxed pace, all around us. A real joy spend time with, to talk to and learn from during our visit. He's an expert navigator of the Wadi Shab — a river gorge that cuts deep into the canyons, which takes skill to navigate. Having Ahmed there to guide us on the trek made the magic of the place all the more accessible. It is, hands down, one of the most naturally awe-inspiring places you'll ever set foot in, and if you have any regrets after visiting it, it'll only be that you didn't go sooner, and spend more time soaking it in. Ultimately though, this is just one more reason to go back to do it again. Timing in between stops, especially when they're spread over hundreds of kilometers, can be a challenge, but Ahmed had it down to a tee. The itinerary came together smoothly, and despite the distances, did not feel rushed. To go from the town, to the beach, to the Wadis, to the coast, into the desert, to visit with an actual (not staged) Bedouin family in their camp, was phenomenal. Then over to Oman's historical capital, Nizwa, with its faithfully restored fort and expansive souk, before making our way to an ancient village overlooking a lush banana plantation with the mountains in the background to frame it. Unbelievable. It was an action-packed 3 days that, somehow, never felt hurried. Thank you Ahmed for taking such good care of us and showing us a slice of your beautiful country. We will be back!
