First ever whisky tour. Thanks to Moray for what felt like a local's guide to Islay with commentary of the sites, people, history, and the distilleries of course. Great suggestion of The Pot Still to visit on our return to Glasgow. And thanks to Andrew at Bowmore House for great hospitality.

The Islay tour was amazing and filled with breathtaking scenery, explanations about history and culture, information about each distilleries process, and of course lots of drams to taste. Our guide Murray's entertaining personality was a great addition and he was excellent at adapting the tour around the wild weather. A big shout out to Andrew at Bowmore House for his charming stories and warm breakfast!

What a wonderful experience. Every detail of the trip was well thought out. Our guide Moray did an amazing job getting us around. I enjoyed all of the information given on the drives to and from Islay. We had weather related issues but they were able to quickly make modifications to the tour schedule to fill in. It really felt like our guide was a local. Would not have been able to see anywhere anywhere near as much as we did with the tour

This is the second time we did this tour, and the second time with Moray! This time we brought friends! A total hoot both times from start to finish! Enjoyable, informative, funny, irreverent. What more could you ask for? A perfect time in every way.

  • Well worth it for an enthusiast!

This is truly the tour of a lifetime if you're a whiskey enthusiast. Moray was an incredible tour guide, and the access the tour is able to give you to the distilleries is well worth it. You get to meet some awesome people, learn a whole lot about Islay and their whiskey crafting, and you get to see a whole lot of the island outside of just whiskey related things. Staying in Bowmore is such a lovely experience as well. Truly my only critique is I would have liked a bit more transparency about the itinerary each day. The gap between breakfast and lunch could be quite long, especially when you're on tours with so much drinking.

This was well worth the cost to have all the details taken care of in advance. Moray was a great guide, and the quantity/variety/pace of the experiences at the various distilleries (and the Whisky Vault) was pretty perfect. (But when they tell you you need dinner reservations in Bowmore, you really do - even for 1.)

  • Dream tour for fans of smoked whiskies

This is a must-see tour for those who like Islay smoked whiskies. Our guide was Moray who took us to the best distilleries like Lagavulin, Laphroaig, Ardbeg and several more, alternating visits with the tour of the incredible landscapes of the island. In each distillery we could appreciate the whisky process and enjoy tastings of varied whiskies. We stayed at Bowmore, in an accommodation called Bowmore House and there Andrew and Alison were the best hosts. Their house is very comfortable and we were served a varied and exquisite breakfast, which also included "a wee dram of whisky" every day. Andrew also provided us with valuable recommendations to take advantage of our stay. Bowmore has a couple of restaurants and a pizzeria highly recommended to end the day with a rich dinner.

  • Great whisky tour!!

This tour is a great way to sample Islay whisky while learning about the island’s history and culture. Our tour guide Moray is knowledgeable and witty, and kept us on time and well informed. Andrew and Alison at Bowmore House kept us well fed and well rested. The center of the town of Bowmore is within easy walking distance of Bowmore House, and has several nice restaurants for dinner. (Reservations required due to high demand when tourists are present.) Each distillery stop included samples and ranged from full tours to tastings without extras. Distillery staff were very accommodating and knowledgeable, and described well how whisky is made and, of course, how their own brand stands out from the rest. The bus trip to and from takes most of the day and includes a 2-3 hour ferry ride. Our ride over was smooth but the ride back was fairly rough - always a possibility. We took rest stops along the way, and stopped at Inveraray for lunch both ways. In sum, if you like Islay or other peated whisky and want to experience for a couple of days life on a quiet, scenic Hebridean island, this tour is well worth it. Thanks to Moray, Andrew and Alison for an unforgettable experience!

  • Educational even for a whisky enthusiast.

The tour is very clear but this is 2 days in Islay and a day getting there and back. We had 12 participants and the meeting place outside Nero coffee Cafe was easy to find as other tour buses also leave from there. The drive was long, scenic and very winding around the lochs, not the best if you get carsick. Day 2 & 3 were distillery visits (we didn't do one on day 1 afternoon) and there can be an element of luck here. Kilchoman had malted grain on the malting floor and we were allowed to help push it into the chute to the drying kiln... an hour or 2 later and it would have been an empty floor. Because of this the kiln wasn't going yet but hours later it would have been. Laphroaig was in their silent season so the floor and kiln were not working... but, we were able to enter the drying room and see how it worked. Be careful regarding dates and distillery silent seasons. Lagavulin is huge and their malting and drying is done off site. At Ardbeg we tasted 5 of their core range. All have great distillery shops. The arranged accommodation at Bowmore House was perfect. Breakfast was cooked. Make sure that you make dinner reservations for the 3 nights that you are on the island. All in all a good experience for me, my partner got to begin enjoying peated whisky. Many of the distilleries have takeaway sample bottles for the non drinkers which for us amounted to 375mls. It's a pricey tour but apart from lunch it is all included. Thanks Moray.
