The Chogoria route is our recommended and arguably the most magnificent ascent route to the summit of Mount Kenya. The physical landscape on this route is its biggest attraction. Whereas the other routes above generally follow a U-Shaped glacial valley for much of the way, the Chogoria traverses around the head of the spectacular ‘Temple’ with the Hall Tarns perched on the rock ledge above it and Lake Michaelson in the base of the Amphitheatre. The additional features of Lake Ellis, the Giant’s Billiard Table and the Nithi Falls further add to its interest. The descent by the Sirimon route takes one through some beautiful forest tracks and completes the traverse of the mountain.

Very special, once-in-a-lifetime experience, made possible by Kenny, highly professional guide Joseph, and the rest of the team. Due to their professional approach, I would definitely recommend Wilderness Alternative Expedition, especially to those for whom this trek might be more challenging than what they're used to. The route and the views are incredible. We did not see many other people.

I recently organized a Mount Kenya trek for a group of friends with Wilderness Alternative Expedition, and I can confidently say it was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. From start to finish, Kenny made the coordination effortless. Communication was smooth, every question was answered honestly, and planning for a group was far easier than I expected thanks to his professionalism. We went up the mountain through the Chogoria route and descended via Sirimon, and the experience was beyond incredible. The trek itself was high quality in every aspect comfortable tents and mattresses, delicious and plentiful meals, and a level of care and detail that made us feel special compared to other companies on the mountain. What they advertise online is exactly what you get: no compromises, no disappointments. The team deserves just as much praise. Lockii, the camp organizer, kept everything running perfectly; Joseph and Abdi, the assistant guides, were patient, encouraging, and full of good humor. And Kenny himself he’s not only a skilled guide but also such an entertaining person, full of random knowledge and stories that kept our group laughing even on the toughest days. What stood out most was the relationship between Kenny and his team. You can feel the respect and trust they share, and that made our group feel like we were part of something bigger than just a trek. After summiting, we joined Kenny for a staycation and game drive at Ilgwesi Tassia, which was the perfect way to relax and celebrate. I highly recommend adding this it tied the whole adventure together beautifully. This was more than just a mountain trek; it was an experience I’ll always remember. Having organized on behalf of my friends, I can say without hesitation that Wilderness Alternative Expedition set the bar very high. I’ll always pass the word about them, because they deserve it. If you’re considering Mount Kenya, do it with Kenny and his team. You won’t regret it.

We came as a group from Kampala, Uganda and first found Wilderness Alternative Expedition on Instagram last year. In June 2023 we climbed Mount Kilimanjaro with them, though we never met Kenny in person at the time. This year, July 2025, we met him in Nairobi before heading to Mount Kenya. Kenny is a young man in his mid 20s, very fluent in English, soft spoken, and easy to talk to. From the start he stood out among other companies we had seen online. He is honest, with no hidden costs, and everything is well organized from professional drivers to perfect timing. The food was excellent, the porters were happy and genuine, and the whole team worked seamlessly. Right now we are in Maasai Mara with his team and when Kenny sent us this request, I was happy to write this on behalf of our group. Kenny, you have a long way ahead of you and we wish you all the best. For anyone reading this, you can find them on Instagram at Wilderness Alternative Expedition.

We climbed Mount Kenya with my friends on the Chogoria Route and wow… what a trip. The views were out of this world, but what really made it special was how Kenny and his crew handled everything. We’d get to camp and find the tents already set up, beds so comfy we forgot we were on a mountain, and hot meals that hit the spot every single time. Mornings were easy no rushing, just good coffee, good vibes, and a team that knew exactly what they were doing. It honestly felt more like a high-end getaway than a mountain trek. If you want comfort, amazing food, and zero stress while climbing, this is it.

Climbing Mount Kenya with Wilderness Alternative Expedition was one of the most unforgettable experiences of my life. From the very first conversation with Kenny, the owner and heart behind the company, I felt confident we were in good hands. He was easy to talk to, always available to answer questions, and everything we discussed actually came together as expected. That kind of reliability is rare and truly appreciated. This wasn’t the cheapest trek on the market, but it was worth every single cent. Our group looked like a proper team. Well-prepared, organized, and just different from most of the other groups we met on the mountain. You could tell that a lot of thought had gone into making sure everything ran smoothly, and it really showed. The comfort level was far beyond what I imagined for a mountain expedition. We had proper tents with mattresses and camping chairs. After a long day of hiking, being able to sit down comfortably and sleep well made all the difference. It felt like a small touch of luxury where I least expected it. What surprised me even more was the food. I still can’t understand how the Wilderness Alternative chef managed to cook such fresh, delicious meals that high up. Every plate was a treat. The kind of food that makes you pause for a second and just appreciate how much care went into it. After the trek, I also joined one of their Maasai Mara safaris, and that was just as special. The logistics were smooth from start to finish, the guiding was top-notch, and the wildlife sightings were out of this world. Every part of the trip felt intentional, relaxed, and personal. If you are looking for an adventure in Kenya that is both high quality and ethically run, I honestly cannot recommend Wilderness Alternative Expedition enough. I would absolutely travel with them again.

It was such a pleasure trekking Mount Kenya with Kenny and Joseph last month this was actually my second time trekking with Kenny! I climbed Mount Kilimanjaro with him last year, and after that incredible experience, I had no hesitation choosing Wilderness Alternative Expedition again. If you're someone who values quality, professionalism, and thoughtful details, this is the team to go with. What I especially loved about their Mount Kenya trek were the mess tents, the warmth of the fireplace at the mess tents, food and the comfort of proper camping chairs small things that made a big difference after long days on the trail. What stood out to me even more was their commitment to treating their porters fairly. Kenny promised they wouldn’t be overloaded and that they’re treated with respect and you can see that in how the whole team operates. It’s something I really admire about this company. And I have to say the food was absolutely amazing. I honestly can’t stop talking about it. Every meal was delicious, well-balanced, and clearly made with care. No shortcuts, just really good food that keeps you going. If you're thinking of doing Mount Kenya, go with Wilderness Alternative Expedition. I’ve done two treks with them now, Mount Kenya and Mount Kilimanjaro and both have been unforgettable.

This was an unforgettable experience! The trek was incredibly well-organised by Kenny, with stunning landscapes and diverse ecosystems that kept us in awe every day. From the lush forested areas to the rugged alpine terrain, each stage of the hike offered something unique. The guide Joseph was knowledgeable and passionate about the mountain, providing us with great insights into the flora, fauna, and cultural significance of Mount Kenya. Joseph and his assistant guide Loki ensured that the pace was manageable and that we were always comfortable, making the challenging sections of the climb feel more achievable. The summit views were absolutely breathtaking, and reaching the top was a huge personal accomplishment. If you’re looking for a challenging yet beautiful hike that pushes your limits while offering some of the most amazing views on earth, I highly recommend this 4-day Mount Kenya trek. It’s an adventure you won’t forget! A special shout-out to our camp chef JJ, who made delicious meals that kept us energised throughout the trek. His butternut squash soup was a standout favourite! And a big thanks to our camp manager, Willy, who always ensured our comfort. Whether it was drying our clothes over a fire when they got wet or providing small heaters in the mess tent, he went above and beyond to make sure we had the best experience possible.

We had a great hike with Kenny to Mount Kenya. Him and the whole team were very knowledgeable about the surroundings and adapted the trip to make sure we made it to the summit. We did 2 nights instead of three, due to timing constraints. Our trip started off with some rain but luckily cleared up on the second day. Would highly recommend!

At first I wanted to take the Sirimon route but Kenny suggested that I take the chogoria route as it is more beautiful and after reading more about the chogoria route on their website I decided to take it and honestly it was the best decision of my life. My guide was Joseph and I felt very safe with him, the chef and the porters were also great I recommend them 100 %.
