Lake Eyasi
After breakfast, we traverse the rough road to lake eyasi, another soda lake in the rift valley. We arrive in afternoon for a cultural interaction with the Tatoga tribe (a very interesting tribe). Our Tatoga guide at the village will lead the tour. We explore the dry and rugged landscape area on foot, which is still inhabited by a small group of bushmen: the Hadzabe or Watindiga. These tribes still live in bands, hunting with bows and arrows; gathering roots, tubers and wild fruits, just as how humans did to survive 10,000 years ago. Another interesting tribe in this area is the Datoga (also called the Barabaig or Mang’ati). Initially, they were exercising a lot of rivalry over grazing land with the Maasai tribe.

Jerome and Julius were really welcoming and helpful in making you feel, for the duration of the tour, like home. The Safari between Tarangire, Serengeti and Ngorongoro was a fantastic experience, which also included a night in a tent and a cultural tour in a village near Arusha. Thanks to Meru Slope for being able to make our dream come true!

Our Safari was everything we could have hoped for, and more. We were working with Geoffrey, and he was very responsive over email when we were coordinating our own safari. He was able to customize an itinerary for us that was within our budget and provided us with very nice accommodations. We went on a 4 day/3 night private safari in Tarangire, Serengeti, and Ngorongoro. Our guide, Samwel, was amazing! He is very knowledgeable, and he was eager to teach us Swahili upon arriving! He knows his history of the country and was excited to share it all with us. He is a Maasai, so we were able to learn a ton about the Maasai culture and way of life from his experiences. He is also incredibly knowledgeable when it comes to the wildlife. He was VERY focused our entire safari to ensure we saw the Big 5, and we did!! The safari guides all have a universal radio in the trucks that they can communicate with each other on, so whenever another guide would announce they had seen a Big 5 animal, Samwel was determined to get us to that same spot as quick as possible so we wouldn’t miss the sighting! He would also make sure we wouldn’t be surrounded by too many trucks, which can sometimes obscure your view. He explained he likes to wait until most of the safari trucks leave the area so we have a better viewing sight and we could enjoy without a crowd. We really appreciated that. The provided food on our safari was delicious as well. I have dietary restrictions (no gluten/dairy) and I had no problems eating the food that was prepared for us. The lodges that we stayed at the night before would prepare our meals for the next day, so I was able to communicate with the chefs to make sure there weren’t any ingredients in the food that I wouldn’t be able to eat. Everyone was extremely accommodating and understanding, and I was comfortable for the entire safari. Thank you. We were also able to visit the main office in downtown Arusha, driving through the city was an amazing experience! We switched from the safari truck into a taxi at their office, and off we went to the airport to head to Zanzibar. We can’t thank Meru Slopes enough for making this trip an experience of a lifetime. We will recommend to everyone we know, and when we return to Tanzania for a safari we will not hesitate to use Meru Slopes again! Asante sana.
