We had an excellent tour with Captain Steve in the new year's period. Weather was perfect - bright, sunny, and pleasant, with cool temperatures in the evening. (If you're planning a trip that goes past sunset, bring plenty of warm clothing.) Steve is from a multi-generational Everglades family, and knows the Big Cypress Swamp well. You may or may not see wildlife, but being Florida, you probably will. I'd recommend going if you're interested in getting really off the beaten path - the only other ways into the swamp are on foot, bike, or a "side-by-side" all terrain vehicle. Road legal cars are not permitted in the 720,000 odd acres. The beauty of the experience is that it slow: you proceed at approximately walking speed, on dry land, and through water that can be knee (or more) deep. The buggy itself is a marvelous machine, with agricultural tyres, an engine and tranmission from Toyota, and seats from a van. It's comfortable, and the windowless design makes for a whole day in the fresh air. Steve is a good conversationalist, and enriches the experience with his knowledge of the local history.

Our guide made the trip very enjoyable, and more important, elaborated on many of the challenges the everglades is facing from climate, development, encroachment, and overpopulation from both local and invasive species. Definitely a worthwhile experience.

My son found this wonderful activity and showed us a You Tube video of Capt. Steve and after watching that, there was no way we’d miss it! My husband, son and I went today and had a great time with Captain Daniels! winter is probably not the best time to see the Everglades because the swamp waters have receded and most of the Cypress trees are bare, but there was so much to learn about the different ecosystems. Even more fun was learning about this family that was born and raised in the Everglades, right alongside the Seminole tribe. So many cool stories! We highly recommend this off-the-beaten path gem! Thanks, Captain Daniels!

We took a tour with Captain Steve through the Everglades on a swamp buggy and had a great time. He was very knowledgeable about the ecosystem and the history of the region. Would definitely recommend, especially if you are looking for a more authentic everglades experience.

I did this tour back in 2012, and wanted to do it again. We had Captain Daniels this time instead of Cpt Steve. Both are excellent, full of stories of growing up down there. At 76, Daniels has lots of stories and information! This is a beautiful place to see. My first time was a gloomy drizzly day in April (still dry season). This time was at the end of wet season, a beautiful sunny day, and a different experience just due to the water. So fun ANY time you go! It's worth it to do it at different times of the year. HIGHLY recommend this excursion! (don't expect a lot of animals like deer anymore; they will explain to you how the pythons have decimated the mammal life. I saw someone give a mediocre review because they didn't see any animals; that's not their fault. However, the birds are fantastic!)
