Cricova is a unique underground complex that got renowned for both its huge labyrinths and excellent wines. For the last 60 years it creates the sparkling wine by the method of the famous monk Dom Pierre Perignon, which requires secondary fermentation in the glass and subsequent cuvée ageing. The wine maturation is done fully in the underground cellars, boasting 120 km in total length. Here, endless lines of stands are holding the bottles at a certain angle, waiting to be shaken every day, so they could become crystal clear. Currently Cricova is home to 1.3 mln bottles and 640 types of wine. The oldest wine in the collection and the only one of its kind in the world is the wine „Easter Jerusalem”, produced in just one batch in 1902. After the guided tour you will be invited in one of their tasting halls for a memorable wine tasting. It is here where the sommelier will tell you about the story of the bubbles in your glass.

We had expected a bus and were driven very comfortably by car to Cricova. At our booked time, a guided tour in German and English took place at the same time and we decided to use German. Overall, we were 8 in our group. First we went with an open kart a few kilometers through the underground tunnels. The first stop was at an underground cinema, where we had a glass of sparkling wine for the explanatory film. We continued to the champagne production and the storage compartments of the wine collections. Our guide spoke very good German, had a lot of interesting information for us and answered all our questions in detail. The wine tasting was a successful conclusion. We loved it and we would definitely book this tour again.

Beautiful experience and to try the very good guide even if the taxi driver could not speak English and also who had organized the tour required us another 20 euros even if I had actually already paid a tour for 4 glasses ..

Great trip, picked up from door. Great tour guide around the wine cellars, gave us recommendations of where to eat in Chisinau. Well worth a visit

We had previously visited the Milestii Mici Winery so had previous experience with a similar state-owned underground winery. The experience at Cricova was not considered as good due to the larger number of guests per tour (48 vs 12), the itinerary (less time talking with the guide and quiet inspection of storage vaults) and a much noisier tasting experience (more basic food pairings, poorer quality wines and no musical accompaniment by a violinist and accordionist). My wife and I had to wait for 10 minutes for a seating at the enormous table while two chairs and place settings were found for us (apparently due to an overbooking mistake by the winery). All in all a somewhat disappointing experience. The transportation to and from the winery was very good.

It is a good tour. The wine is very good. However it gets cold in the tunnels. I would recommend this tour

We really enjoyed this winery, it was a great experience and we had a really good time. Our driver was really quiet, and hard to find at the end of the tour, but we appreciated the ride. If we could do this again, we probably would have just booked directly through the winery and caught an uber. This tour didn’t really provide anything special that we couldn’t have planned ourselves.
