Osh Bazaar
In the morning, we will pick you up from your hotel to start your unique food tasting journey in Bishkek. Our first destination is the vibrant Osh Bazaar, a cornerstone of local culture. This bustling outdoor market is more than just a place to shop; it's where you can truly immerse yourself in the flavors and daily life of Kyrgyzstan. From fresh food products and spices to an array of local delicacies, Osh Bazaar offers an authentic taste of the region. Amidst the lively crowds and rich aromas, you’ll have the chance to sample traditional foods and understand why this market is a beloved spot among both locals and visitors.
After exploring Osh Bazaar, we'll continue our culinary adventure at a cozy, family-run restaurant known for its exceptional tea brewed in a traditional Russian samovar. Here, you’ll get to taste Kattama bread, a cherished element of Kyrgyz cuisine. Kattama is a crispy, golden brown flatbread made from a simple blend of flour, water, and salt, cooked to perfection on a hot griddle. The combination of this warm, flavorful bread with aromatic tea from the samovar offers a genuine and delightful breakfast experience, letting you savor the true essence of local dining traditions.

Had a lovely time trying different foods across a variety of settings in Bishkek. I appreciated that they let me book as a solo traveller. Easy to organise via WhatsApp, with clear communication about pick up and tour arrangements.

My wife and I arrived in Bishkek two days early for an organized tour of the "Stans". We booked a private half-day food tour with Datka Travel for our second day. We were picked up at our hotel at 10 AM by Faruk. He was our guide and driver. We skipped breakfast at our hotel so our first stop was Faiza Restaurant for our main course. We ordered laghman and plov, two local dishes and kompot to drink. All delicious. Our next stop was a walk through the Osh Bazaar where we spent a considerable amount of time walking off our meal. We walked past stalls selling traditional Kyrgyzstan bread, horse meat sausage, smoked bacon, plucked chickens, various salads and much more. We sampled a few treats along the way. Faruk drove us to Navat Teahouse for a dessert sweet named Chak-Chak followed by a cozy, family-run restaurant where we enjoyed Kattama bread. Faruk drove us around Ala-Too Square pointing out the statues, monuments and buildings that surround the area. Our last stop was a visit to the beautiful Bishkek Central Mosque. The tour normally ends with a drop off at your hotel. However, we needed a hotel change to join our tour group the next day. Faruk was kind enough to provide our hotel transfer! The half-day food tour from Datka Travel complimented our group tour by providing a well-fed overview of Bishkek. We highly recommend Datka Travel!

This was the first tour I took in Bishkek. It was well organized and was a good introduction to the local food. The guide was on time and knowledgeable. The company provided good communication before the tour.

Our guide Faruk was great. He gave us detailed information about Bishkek and its sights and, in addition, shared his personal knowledge and life stories with us, which gave us a much better understanding of the country and the city. His engaging personality and enthusiasm contributed greatly to the thoroughly enjoyable time we spent with him – way more time than the 3-4 hours mentioned in the description on the website. We learnt a lot and enjoyed our time with him.

Our guide Faruk was great. He gave us detailed information about Bishkek and its sights, and, in addition, shared his personal knowledge and life stories with us, which gave us a much better understanding of the country and the city. His engaging personality and enthusiasm contributed greatly to the thoroughly enjoyable time we spent with him – way more time than the 3-4 hours mentioned in the description on the website. We had already taken a city tour and expected more emphasis on food. Faruk was flexible enough and happy to adjust the itinerary to better suit our expectations and did add some more information we did not cover on our other tour. That said, the title “Food Tour” is misleading. Although we were taken to 3 restaurants – a coffee shop, a location that serves a special snack, a local restaurant for lunch, and tasted our way through the food section of the bazaar, the other part of the tour was a general city tour which included the major sites in Bishkek. I would suggest the description of the tour include a more inclusive description of the itinerary, perhaps “Food and City Tour”.

Good English-speaking guide who knew a lot about the country and culture. First contact about pickup time was fairly late. The food we ate tasted delicious. Would recommend!

Farook was an amazing tour guide! Bishkek was super hot that day so the air conditioned car was a godsend! He took us to several food places in Bishkek to try different foods...and we're talking MEALS so skip breakfast and go hungry! This tour also included a tour of the city's major spots; he timed things so we could see the changing of the guard at Ala-Too Square. He was also very flexible with his time, and accommodated someone in the group who wanted to get a caricature drawing of themselves at the art gallery. A 4-hour tour turned into a a 6 hour one, as he went along with our pace. He even spotted me some money to buy some horse sausage at Osh Bazaar (I paid him back of course). Super friendly, and worth the price!

We had a fabulous food tour in Bishkek! I would recommend! Our guide Faruk was an absolute font of information! We went to 3 different restaurants and tried different types of food and drink. I was very very full, but still there was more to try. The bread pastry pancakes was my favourite, even though everything was delicious! Our guide Farukh was also able to point out to us the different sites on the journey between restaurants. We got lots of historical information about the food and the sites. The bazar section of the tour was really interesting and I was able to purchase some souvenirs as well as try some Kyrgyz food from the food sections also. Farukh was very informative about the different items and food stuffs. There was was whole bunch of monuments and Kyrgystan history and culture that we had questions about and he was able to answer them. Would definitely recommend you do this if you come to Kyrgystan!

Our guide, Anvar, was fantastic! This was such a great tour - we were picked up in a private car, then started the tour at a yurt restaurant for traditional snacks and tea. We then had a guided walking tour of the main sites around Ala Too square. We stopped for lunch at a traditional restaurant which is popular with locals and Anvar advised us on traditional dishes to order. We then visited Osh Bazaar and finished at another lovely restaurant for a traditional Kyrgyz dessert. A fantastic day with plenty of lovely food! All food and drink included - well worth the money and highly recommended to anyone visiting Bishkek.
