The Hanging Church
then move to visit The most famous site in Coptic Cairo is the Church of the Virgin Mary, better known by its nickname, the Hanging Church. This name comes from the fact that it was built atop the walls of the 4th century BC Roman fortress of Babylon, the remains of which are still visible about Coptic Cairo Although the effect is significantly diminished today by the fact that the ground level has risen over 30 feet over the centuries due to the accumulation of trash and dust, originally this church towered above its surroundings on the high walls of the fortress.

5.00This was our second day tour with Deluxe tours and with Marco and Ayman as our guide and driver. Being our second day with them, Marco understood what we want to see and experience. This was negotiated to be more than a half day tour. It is worth talking with the tour guide / company if you wish to see more. Some are not advertised. For this adventure, we went to , beside Coptic Cairo, the Citadel and Alabaster Mosque. Also to Saint Samaan The Tanner Monastery.. I would certainly recommend Marco as the guide and Ayman, the driver. They have made my tour of Cairo during the 2 days, very enjoyable.

She immediately made us feel comfortable and happy that we could see Cairo through the eyes of someone so experienced. She has a great knowledge of the culture, architecture, design, time periods and religion of all Egyptians. She a true expert in navigating the challenges of Cairo and made everything easy - all we had to do was enjoy! I highly recommend Nevin and Deluxe tours Egypt for anything you want to experience while visiting this most amazing country!
