Arrival Day Guests should be in Victoria Falls Village at least one day before the first day of the raft trip as pre-departure briefings are held one day prior. This will give you a chance to meet your raft guides, discuss the adventure that lies ahead of you, ask any last minute questions and also get things like dry bags and sleeping bags. Guests should breakfast at their hotel prior to pick up at 9 am when they will be driven to our office where the river safety briefing is held. The first part of any rafting experience is very much a learning exercise followed by Swimming Under The Spry Of The Victoria Falls, however today there is no gradual build up; Depending on the water level this 26km stretch on day one is by far the wildest section of river that will be covered. This trip including many class 4 and 5 rapids. Some of the rapids on day one include Morning Glory, Stairway to Heaven, Land of The Giants, and The Devil's Toilet Bowl . We will reach our beach campsite at rapid #21 at about 4 pm. Day 2, 3 & 4 Rafting We rise as the sun illuminates the towering walls above, to the smell of bacon and eggs on the fire. Then, with all the equipment once more stowed securely for the voyage down stream, and a long day ahead of us , we cast off into a world of exhilarating action and scenes of remarkable beauty. We will have about 3 portaging around Moemba Falls, Dam Site Falls & Deep Throat rapid. We have some nice rapids including Ghost rider, the biggest commercially run-able roller coaster wave train in the World. Day 5 Rafting The river really changes character. Basalt rocks give way to grassy banks and the grunts of vocal hippopotamus carry across the water. Our rafts drift past islands in the river, havens for Egyptian Geese and basking crocodiles. After a couple of hours, we rendezvous with our vehicles near the Matetsi River mouth. After packing up and deflating the rafts we head back to Victoria Falls by road, having lunch on route. The journey back takes about 3 hours. After taking time out to unpack and freshen up, a group dinner and party is always a favorite option.

The guides and company are so professional and absolutely know what they’re doing. The river stretch is just incredible with huge waves and warm water and the guides are able to take you through the biggest waves or skirt around some of them to vary the level of carnage you prefer

The company took care of everything, they made it safe and fun. We had a raft that was good for everyone from those who wanted to "GO BIG" to those who wanted a smoother ride. The guides were knowledgeable, hard-working, and fun! The whitewater and the scenery were spectacular. We had so much fun, we came back for another run of the day stretch. I hope I can make it back for another trip.

Highly recommend Shockwave for rafting the mighty Zambezi. Even though we were there at lower water, it was the biggest river I have ever rafted and lives up to the stories. Whether you want huge flips, big swims, and running the meat of the rapids or clean lines and a chance to see the rapids from the boat, Shockwave will deliver. OG was our boat's guide and is the best. His quiet confidence and skill on the river put me at ease and made it an incredible journey down the river. He pointed out countless birds and interesting points along the way which deepened the experience. An incredible trip I will never forget.

Our group of 4 took a 5-day rafting trip plus 4 more days of game walking and driving tours in the first 2 weeks of Sept 2024. The rafting excursion was wonderful. 120 kilometers, 10 class 5 rapids, 4 class 6 rapids (all portaged for safety), numerous class 2,3, and 4 rapids, crocs, hippos, and a wide variety of plants and wildlife. The rapids are concentrated in the first 3 days. We slept outdoors on pads in bags, and though tents were available they weren't needed because few biting insects were present. All the better to the star-filled sky. Our crew (TT, Milton, Liberty, Mr. Nice, Fanboy, Eso) was full of information, skilled oarsmen, and accomplished campfire cooks. Highly recommended if you want 5 days without phones, the noises of civilization, deep sleep after a day of paddling, and stunning sunsets and sun rises. The game walks and drives included numerous viewings: lions (8), elephants (large herds, smaller groups, some as close as 20 meters), zebras, steenboks, hippos, crocs, kudu antelope, giraffes, ostriches, sable antelope, and more. The lodges provided comfortable accomodations and some very nice meals. Shuttle to/from the airport, to launch and takeout site, and to Hwange lodging and back. A memorable adventure that is highly recommend.

EPIC adventure! I would 100% recommend this company and river to everyone who enjoys rafting and even those who are just up for an adventure. My family and I did a five-day trip down the Zambezi in mid-late July. We started when the river was still slightly too high to start at rapid 2, so we put in above 11. This river had the biggest water we had ever seen (having done rivers in Alaska, the Grand Canyon, Ecuador, New Zealand, Idaho, California, and Colorado, we thought we had an idea of what the water would be like but it surpassed our expectations). It made the Grand Canyon look small! We always felt safe and our guides had a perfect balance of respect for the river and a sense of fun and adventure. Our crew was the best for which we could have asked! We never saw another group rafting on the river which made the river feel very wild and we enjoyed having it to ourselves. We saw loads of wildlife from crocodiles and hippos to snake eagles and pied wagtails. It's truly mind-boggling that not more people are taking advantage of being able to raft this river. It is a must!!!

Best rafting we have ever done. Incredible whitewater, stunning scenery and tranquil beach camping made this trip pure magic. OG, Silent, Wellington, and Devine were all fantastic guides and are now friends. Thank you to all the Shockwave staff for giving my family a fantastic adventure. The truck rides and walks to and from the river and learning about the culture and wildlife were all part of the adventure. Push yourself a little if you need to, but DO THIS TRIP!

We are avid rafters so this trip had been on our bucket list. Pro: it is an experience of a lifetime. Day 1 is by far the most rapids and exciting. Liberty, our safety kayaker, was absolutely fantastic. Cons: We had one boat for all the gear, 4 paying guests, 4 crew and 1 crew members guest. It was overly crowded and the cramped space severely took away from the experience. If you are thinking of booking this trip, before you book, make sure there is a gear boat. I can not stress how little room we had for long days on the river. It was very uncomfortable. The crew had hard work with the portages and the meals (food was good)…I am grateful to them.

I and my x2 teenage girls undertook the 5 day rafting tour in Aug 23. All communication with Shockwave prior to the trip was good, with a rapid response to emails, and they were willing to change the departure date of the trip (requested well in advance!) to fit our schedule. There were 8 on our trip so 2 after, one for pax and one for kit. The headline rapids on Day 1 were of course awesome, but there were actually rapids all the way through to the end of day 4 (albeit the last Grade 5 was on Day 3, and there were longer stretches of calm water between the rapids as the trip progressed). The scenery was amazing, we were within the Gorge for the first 4 days with only the occasional fisherman's thatched hut as evidence of human habitation. Lunches and overnight camps were on white sandy beaches on either side of the river, with evening dinner cooked over a camp fire. Food was plentiful, varied and tasty, including traditional nshima on the last night. There were swim sites at the camping spots on the first 3 nights; crocs appeared by day 4 and hippos by 5 which prevented swimming thereafter! Overall, a fantastic "get away from it all" trip with periods of adrenaline but plenty of chilled paddling along the calmer stretches, great crew, and we enjoyed it immensely - thank you.
