  • Ireland to Island 7 Day Tour - Best Experience Ever

My boyfriend and I went on the 7-day Ireland to Island tour at the beginning of September. We had never been on a tour before and had no idea what to expect, but we were blown away by our wonderful tour guide, David, the quality of the activities and experiences Overland arranged, and the wonderful group who accompanied us. We loved exploring multiple castles, the beautiful towns and lovely accommodations + included breakfasts in each location, biking the Aryan Islands, Skellig Michael hike for my boyfriend, kayaking in Killarney National Park, watching an authentic sheep dog demonstration, and the highlight of our tour was getting to see the Cliffs of Moher from both sea and on a hike along the cliff edge traveling to Doolin that was essentially private with no other foot traffic. All of these experiences were made possible by our amazing guide, David. He is the best and most confident driver I have ever encountered, a must on tricky Irish roads. We always felt safe in his care. David is kind, polite, friendly, easy to talk to, and has extensive knowledge of Ireland and all the locations we visited. He gave excellent recommendations for every stop on the tour including food, shopping, and activities. Every time we took his advice, we had a wonderful time. He always did everything in his power to make sure we had the best of the best. During breakfast in Cobh at the beginning of our tour, he noticed that a cruise ship was about to dock nearby and that our next stop at Blarney Castle could soon be over-crowded. He swiftly acted and made sure we got there first! Another night, he gave up his free time after a long day of driving to have dinner with my boyfriend and I after we followed his advice on a restaurant recommendation, and we enjoyed his company and friendship. A final example of David's excellence, in our group, 5 people, including myself, decided not to hike Skellig Michael, and David made sure we also had a great experience and put in extra effort to take us to the Kerry Cliffs for the afternoon, and it was equally if not more beautiful than the Cliffs of Moher. It was these extra efforts that made everything so special! Overland Ireland definitely has the best activities and experiences for small groups, and this was the best trip of our lives, but the heart is in their amazing guides. Thank you, David and Overland Ireland for sharing your home with us! I would recommend David and this tour to anyone wanting to explore Ireland.

Trip highlights: - Excellent Tour Guide (David!) - Comfortable and centrally located accommodations - Delicious breakfasts (included) and great restaurants at every stop - Cultural Experiences: Blarney Castle, Rock of Cashel, Middleton Distillery, Kenmare Stone Circle, Exploring Gallway - Adventure Experiences: The ring of Kerry, Michael Skellig, Bike Ride Around the Aran Islands, Kayaking in Killarney National Park, Bike Ride in Killarney National Park, Hike Along Cliffs of Moher, Boat Ride along Cliffs of Moher My wife and I had the loveliest time while in Ireland. The Island to Ireland tour offered the perfect balance of excitement and leisure. The activities that we participated in were top notch and offered an enlightening view into history, nature, and culture of Ireland. The accommodations that we were booked at were also very lovely. Some were cute boutique hotels where we the owners would cook us wonderful breakfasts in the morning (Doolin), while others were more established well appointed hotels right in the middle of town (Killarney Towers). All in all we felt very comfortable and safe each and every night and woke up feeling refreshed and ready to take on the day. Our tour guide, David, helped to make our trip truly special and unforgettable. By the end of time with him, we began to think of him more as family than our guide. David was an ace when it came to the history of Ireland and readily imparted his wisdom about the country unto our group, whenever possible. However, he also had a remarkable sense of when it was time to just sit back and relax and enjoy the incredible scenery unfolding along side our tour van. His expertise pertaining to the natural history of Ireland was also something special. The joy he exuded when talking about the geology of the Burren or the Peat Bogs and their industrious utility was contagious. We especially enjoyed the moments when David would open up about his Family life and his personal experience growing up and living in Ireland. It provided a window into the not only his world, but that of the Irish people, which in turn, made us feel more deeply connected with the country and the people. Oh and before I forget, David was an excellent driver on those narrow roads, and an excellent conversationalist if that wasn't already obvious. By the end of our trip, my wife and I both felt an overwhelming amount of pride for our Irish heritage, and an immense amount of gratitude towards the Irish people for letting us into their country and for being such gracious hosts. Especially David. We will remember this trip for the rest of our lives, and Ireland has now become one of our all time favorite countries we have visited (we are Americans for reference). One more thing, we were paired up with 10 other people we had never met before, and by the end of the trip we had become great friends with all of them. Meeting other folks from our group out for a drink at pub or in the morning for breakfast, or randomly seeing them at a cafe in town were some of our favorite moments of the trip. I think David, our guide played a large part in our group bonding. With full heart and immense gratitude, Ben and Victoria

Really enjoyed our small group tour through the lower half of Ireland. Our guide and driver Ciaran did an amazing job, not only navigating the narrow roads but providing the best of history, culture, and alternative activities when weather was challenging, or someone in the group preferred a little less exertion . Highlights included the sheepdog demonstration, cycling on Inisheer island, and hiking the Cliffs of Moher . You need to have good mobility on this trip, and even though it says you need hiking boots, you can get by with a good pair of trail or running tennis shoes with good tread. Have a second set of tennis shoes if it rains. We found a laundermat in Galway to dry our clothes since itcwas rainier than normal. This is a go-go tour vs a slow-go tour and we averaged 15k steps a day, though as I said Ciaran did provide some alternatives.

I had the absolute best time on this tour! I wasn’t sure if a group tour was right for me after solo traveling for so long but it was the best choice I could’ve made. Deb was a fantastic guide who led our group through ups and downs. I really appreciate the effort Deb put into finding us interesting activities after our boat to Skellig Michael was canceled due to weather. This tour has plenty of free time so you can decide what you want to do around lunch and in the evenings. The hiking and kayaking were absolute highlights! Deb organized a solo kayak for me and it was so much fun. The itineraries were well thought out but flexible. I’m incredibly happy with my experience and the amazing people I met.

He was communicative throughout the journey and his personality and charm made this tour my absolute all-time favorite. Loved being with a small group. Our tour guide was authentic, energetic, positive, extremely fun and knowledgable. She always presented us with options . She let us weigh in on when to take a stop and for how long. She followed through on all requests and frequently shared logistical and additional related information to what we were seeing electronically. In addition to her skills as a guide she was a safe and efficient driver. We really appreciated being able to be active on this tour, biking, hiking and kayaking. Our only disappointment was not being able to explore Skellig Michael. That was due to weather that prevented the boat transportation to the island. The possibility of weather impacting activities had been well communicated by Overland to us in the tour description information and by our guide. It was a perfect blend of being with a tour and having ample time on our own to explore. Our tour guide was a “gem” !

This tour provided me with memories and scenery flashbacks that will last me for the rest of my life. My partner and I really enjoyed the small group dynamic as we had the opportunity to meet amazing people from all over the world and really get to know one another. This human component was furthered by our tour guide, Deb. She was an integral part of connecting us all with interactive touches like Spotify playlists that we all could add to (I listen to it now and it re-ignites those special moments) and a What’s app group so that we could communicate with her, as well as others on the tour throughout our journey. In a world frought with division and lack of connection, Deb really made this trip an experience on a human level, which is so rare to find and an invaluable touch. The tour was a great itinerary and everyone was free to choose activities to their level of leisure. There was lots of free time to explore on our own or with others on the tour. Thank you, Deb, for collecting us all and helping us to chart our course together and facilitating such harmony and fun along the way. Just as an aside, the communication with the tour company could have been better. We didn’t receive a lot of information prior to the trip regarding hotels or specific itinerary. This detail leaves room to strengthen things on the administrative side. Thanks again to Deb, and everyone else on the tour for being such wonderful souls on a Magical Journey of Ireland that we will never forget!
