From our store, based in the “Invicta” city of Porto, we will begin our journey heading to Esposende, a seaside city located to the North. During this second day, you will be overwhelmed with seaside landscapes and small “Portuguese rivieras”, until you reach Esposende, a city from the Middle Ages. A huge variety of fishing villages (Póvoa de Varzim) will be met by us, where we can experience ancient traditions linked to the fish exploration, as well as taste this famous gastronomy. In Vila do Conde, you’ll know why these Portuguese coastal cities were so important during the “el dorado” of the Portuguese Discoveries

We’re reaching Viana do Castelo, another sea docking city that was quite important during the Discoveries’ period. During the XIV-XVth Centuries it was in this precise city that the ships going to Brazil, India, Africa and other Portuguese Colonies were developed. Our final destination will be Caminha. This city finds the shore of the river Minho, making it part of an incredible landscape. Caminha is also very well-known for its natural and green heritage, like the sightseeing areas, waterfalls, beaches and the camping park.

Baiona

During our fourth cycling day, you are going to enter in Spanish territory, ending in Bayona. It’s a city politically linked to Pontevedra where you can breathe the sea breeze. Away from the sea landscape you can also get lost in the old city center. Born from the Romans, the city kept growing towards the coast during the Middle Ages, with an influence from the Catholic Church. Curiously, during the XVI Century, Bayona was raided by British ships, led by the great corsair and explorer Francis Drake who saw an opportunity to establish a commercial and merchant point in this territory.

This day will encompass the stream of Vigo and will end in San Simon's bay with a watery landscape to feast your eyes on. Always following the coastline, this day will be dedicated to Arcade and its famous oysters. Apart from this delightful cuisine, you will see monuments and sights dedicated to Santiago’s culture, such as the church of Santiago in Arcade (XII-XIII centuries) and roads and paths that will lead to our pilgrimage destination. It’s almost mandatory that, if you are passing by Arcade, you must taste and enjoy the famous oysters produced and harvested in the waters of this region. Curiously, during April’s first week there is a festival dedicated to this traditional gastronomy – “Fiesta de la Ostra” – where the city is filled with tourists and pilgrims to attend this event.

Carballeira de Caldas de Reis

Heading to a pre-Roman city, Caldas de Reis, a province which belongs to Pontevedra. According to historical archives, the first inhabitants were a pre-Roman community that lived from the hot springs of this territory. The name “Caldas de Reis” is connected to the birthplace of Afonso VII, acting in the Middle Ages as a pilgrimage path to Santiago de Compostela. Apart from the rich cultural heritage, like Arcade, Caldas de Reis holds a peculiar gastronomy, such as the “empanadas” of lamprey and the traditional Spanish bread. Since the hot springs accompanied the evolution of this territory, nowadays it is a hot spot for tourism who seeks better healthy treatments for several illnesses

  • The Way of St. James Bike Tour Oct 2025.

    - Review from Tripadvisor

Six Seattle recreational cyclists (58y to 66y) review of Top Bike’s supported Portuguese Camino route. Top Bike delivered and enabled our group to experience an amazing trip! We had good luck with the weather for the entire week (13-19Oct25)— cool mornings and temperate afternoons; no rain. The five-star rating is for all the logistics, accommodations, equipment, support van (snacks and breaks), and excellent support staff (guidance and safety — lead, sweeper cyclists, and van driver) provided by Top Bike. Their support staff provided excellent service and encouragement, along with new or almost new MTB Trek (29-wheel) bikes used on this trip. The rest was up to us: one’s attitude and aptitude (cycling skill level) made this a challenging, arduous, fun and satisfying journey. Take care to read and adhere to the “requirements - additional information” for this trip — no medical or mobility issues, 6-8 hours of riding - 8am to 4pm, and a moderate physical fitness level. Preparation by training to climb moderate hills and unpaved gravel paths, is a plus for this trip. There were many different surfaces, cobblestones, boardwalks, busy urban streets, congested narrow bridges, traffic circles, tight turns and zigzags on village roads, sandy paths, many short to moderate climbs, and long descents on highway roads. Our group was challenged but found the stamina (remember your chamois butter) to enjoy this memorable vacation and experience spectacular coastal scenery, the castle, the tower by the river, the food (especially the seafood), historical chapel and churches, and biking vibe from the support staff and the rest of the group 16 total riders, and the elation of final walk into the Plaza del Obradoiro. We can’t stress enough how valuable the support staff was to us and how deserving of 5 stars+plus 5 more to João, Felipe, and Alberto were. Would we do it again? Yes, definitely! But…maybe we’ll opt for e-bikes next time! Bom Camniho!, Buen Camino!, Good travels and be safe by way of St. James.

What a great way to experience the Camino to Santiago de Compostela. As a solo traveler and first time in this part of the world, they made my experience seemless and were very attentive to everything I needed for the trip. Experiencing the trail this way was magical and the places where we stayed were great. I would highly recommend this "WAY" to Santiago.

This was an amazing trip in many ways. I’ve been on a couple of self guided cycling holidays in the past. This time we went for the guided 7 day, coastal, Camiño route from Porto. My husband and I, both in our 60s we are both keen cyclists (road bikes) . We went for e-bikes after a lot of deliberation. I think this was the right choice for us. The route was extremely varied, beautiful scenery and very interesting. I learned lots of new skills including riding an e-bike !! also riding with a group and varied terrains that we weren’t used to. Every single one of my new cycling buddies were fantastic, super friendly and great fun to be around. The tour was extremely well organised by Sergio, he did a great job of leading, along with support from Miguel; a great team ! We also stayed in some top hotels and tasted some great food. Sergio also took lots of photos, so we had lasting memories of our fantastic trip. I will miss all my new friends (from all over the world dearly). My husband and I are hoping to do another Top Bike tour from Lisbon to Algarve next time. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this incredible experience.

It's hard to write one paragraph about such a magical and special experiences, but this bike tour was special in every way. The sights were spectacular, but the experience and adventure exceeded my expectations. I opted for the e-bike, and glad I did, considering I had never biked such a long distance and there were some uphills. Even though I did the trip by myself, the crew was always accessible by WhatsApp and ensured that my luggage made it from one place to another. I highly recommend both this trip and Top Bike Tours for anyone wanting to do a bike trip.

This was our second self guided tour with Top Bike. This time we did the Porto to Santiago route along the Camino trail, easily customizable trek with some extra time added. Stunning views, beautiful pathways, and prime coastal routes. The premium hotels were outstanding! Sergio and his team did a fantastic job making our trip a memorable one. Loved it all, thanks again Top Bike! 😎 🚲 🥰

I have been fortunate to have enjoyed many bike tours. This one was exceptional: varied terrain along scenic route, powerful, easy to ride E bike, marvelous lodging, (castle, fortress, villa). The best: four caring, competent guides, who put safety first, followed by a lot of fun and laughs. Value added: included pre ride day ( time adjustment), winery tour, historic sites, tabas lunch, hot springs.
