Solitaire

In Solitaire we will refuel the touring vehicle while you can enjoy a cup of coffee or tea in the “General Dealer”-shop. Solitaire is what one would call a “one-horse-town” and in fact for many years there was ONE (living) horse here to be seen. The little shop also has a good variety of books on Namibia and most of all this little shop is very popular because of its traditional german Apple Pie.

Early morning light creates stunning colors, perfect for photography. Dead Vlei's white clay pan and ancient camelthorn trees are a highlight. Mid-morning, return to camp to relax by the pool. Wild Horses of Aus

Situated high above the vast plains of the Namib Desert, nestled in the rugged Aus Mountains, lies the charming village of Aus. This place is a treasure trove of incredible plant life, boasting an astonishing variety of botanical wonders. Aus is the perfect starting point for exploring the main highlight of the region: the untamed and free-roaming feral horses of the Namib Desert, gracefully galloping across the sparsely vegetated plains. For the best horse sightings, head to the water trough at Garub, a mere twenty kilometres from Aus.

Kolmanskop Ghost Town

Kolmankop, also known as Kolmanskuppe, is a ghost town in the Namib Desert of Namibia, a few kilometers inland from the port town of Lüderitz. Established in 1908 when diamonds were discovered, it quickly became a thriving mining town with European-style architecture, including a hospital, ballroom, and school. However, with the decline in diamond production after World War I and the discovery of richer deposits further south, Kolmanskop was abandoned by 1954, leaving its buildings to be slowly filled with sand, transforming it into a unique tourist destination.

2

Luderitz

Founded in 1883, it served as a key port and diamond mining center, though its importance declined after World War I. Today, Lüderitz relies on fishing, tourism, and guano harvesting, drawing visitors with its historical buildings, proximity to Kolmanskop ghost town, and opportunities for wildlife viewing, including seals and penguins. The town's often windy and foggy climate adds to its distinctive character.

A single road runs through the town, flanked by comfortable lodges and campsites designed for adventurous visitors. At the heart of Ai-Ais lies the iconic Hot Springs Resort, where steaming sulphurous pools invite travellers to relax following a thrilling hike down the Fish River Canyon Trail or to enjoy a scenic soak under the expansive Namibian sky. Located in Ai-Ais Richtersveld Transfrontier Park, Namibia, Camping at Ai Ais offers guests a camping experience set in tranquil surroundings. Both attractions are unique geological and botanical wonders. The Quivertree Forest is a collection of Aloe dichotoma trees, also known as quiver trees, which are not actually trees but rather succulents. The Giant's Playground is a field of large dolerite boulders, precariously stacked and scattered, creating a surreal, otherworldly landscape. Both attractions are located near Keetmanshoop and offer a stark, beautiful glimpse into the harsh yet fascinating environment of the South.

Stampriet

A leisurely morning as we wend our way through the Kalahari area to the city of Windhoek. Rehoboth Rehoboth, found in Hardap Region, Namibia, is about 90 kilometers south of Windhoek. It's nestled among camel thorn, sweet-thorn, and candle-pod acacia trees, and features several natural hot springs. This place is famous not just for its stunning landscapes but also for its deep-rooted heritage. The ancient Baster community, who crossed the river to make this area their home in 1870, has a fascinating history that adds to the charm of the region.
