Hiking Mount Bisoke is an adventurous and exciting activity which is not restricted to experienced hikers. Hiking up to the summit takes 6 hours while coming down 2 or more depending on how frequently the hiking team stops for rest. Seasoned mountain climbers can reach the summit in 3 hours. A Mount Bisoke hike is considered less demanding but hikers should be reasonably fit and prepare to deal with the thorny plants, stinging insects and muddy trails – especially during the rainy season. The temperature/oxygen levels is one aspect hikers have to prepare to deal with. Temperatures can get so low and make the hike tiring hence requiring frequent stops.

Darius was amazing, there is no other way to describe. He does the transport to the national park and the hike is done by a park ranger and porters. It's quite a long drive that starts very early, but it was fun all along. He stays there waiting for you the whole time in case you don't make it or something happens. 1000% recommend. About the hike, it's not the easiest. If you're not used to doing cardio or hikes, it's going to be hard. The view on top is nice.

A challenging but amazing hike! Darius is super organised and managed to keep everything on schedule despite the short notice. The guides you do the hike with are very friendly and supportive. It was a great day!

The hiking was tough but the view and experience was amazing. A porter carried my bag and helped me to hike with holding hands. Overall fun experience.

Had a great experience! Highly recommend it to anyone who wants to do something different to just seeing the gorillas. The hike is challenging towards the end, but very manageable. Darius is a great guide! Very engaging and I really enjoyed our discussions. I have learnt a lot about the country and its culture. A must if you are in Rwanda.

I had a great time going on the Bisoke hike. Thanks to Darius for organizing it! The hike is great fun, but don't underestimate this mountain. It is a serious hike, and harder in the rainy season, so come physically prepared and well equipped. I only had running shoes, but got to rent rubber boots at the base, which were a life saver. Getting to the top was magical, though, so I do highly recommend it.

Darius and his team at Usalama Tours looked after everything for my day trip on this wonderful hike. From collecting me (very early!) from my hotel in Kigali to organising lunch for my trip and bringing me back safely to Kigali that evening. Due to very few tourist in Rwanda at the time because of Covid travel restrictions, I was the only person undertaking the hike that day! But still, they were able to organise the tour at very short notice. The drive from the park-ranger meeting point was over very bumpy terrain to the base of Mount Bisoke, through banana plantations and lush green Rwandan countryside. After leaving the jeeps, we began our trek through the local villages and farmland. This eventually gave way to dense rainforest jungle and narrow muddy tracks. The hike itself was very challenging, with an ascent of about 1000m, taking me about 3.5 hours to reach the top. Completing it in May meant the ground was very wet and muddy under foot. All along the way, I was very well looked after by the guides and rangers. Overall a very enjoyable experience. It did take a couple of days and lots of washing to finally clean my hiking boots! Thanks to Darius and all the Usalama Tours for such a memorable experience!
