Although there are a number of natural sinkholes in the country, the Black Hole Drop is the only one that is safely used for sport rappelling. Ian Anderson's Caves Branch Adventure Co
Tour begins with a 10 minute ride to the trail head of the 60-90 minute jungle hike to the site of the Natural Sink Hole of Actun Loch Tunich- situated within the 50,000 acre private estate of Caves Branch Jungle Lodge. Your team of expert guides will gear you up for the 300 ft descent into the sink hole where at the bottom you will enjoy a fun and tasty picnic styled lunch. Hiking out of the sink hole is another amazing feat of endurance and intrigue- once that deserves an ice cold beer at the end of the day. REQUIRED DRESS CODE: Light weight long pants (not jeans), t-shirts or long sleeved shirts, well threaded tennis or hiking boots (TEVAS, KEENS or Sandals of any kind are NOT PERMITTED FOR SAFETY REASONS). Ankle length Yoga Pants can work! DISCLAIMER: Caves Branch Guides reserve the right to approve or deny any person from participating if the required dress code is not followed. 5.00This tour is no joke. It is a hard hike through the jungle each way. The rappelling is AMAZING! Everything I read said rappelling, lunch, tour a cave. There is no cave touring. Lunch was refreshing. The guides were awesome. I never felt unsafe. Once in a lifetime experience for us.

5.00Our excursion with Caves Branch was even better than we expected. Everyone was very helpful for our first repelling experience. The beautiful and very sweaty hike up to the black hole drop took about an hour and was not an easy. Our guide, Hector really made this an incredible experience. We stopped to learn a bit about the local plant & animal life and had plenty of time to take photos. The view from repelling was stunning. We’d love to come back and bring our kids when they’re a bit older. The team at Caves Branch will give you everything you need for the day (small backpack with water, helmet & repelling equipment, as well as a fresh lunch) Tips: Wear comfortable, sturdy hiking shoes, clothes to sweat in, bring gratuity for your guide and mosquito spray.
